Mah Jongg Tile Set Description
Tile Set Name: CABLETV.TIL
Subject: Television
Created by: Erik Elsasser
Description:
Thanks to Nels Anderson for his work on Mahjongg. I first came
across it about 3 years ago, downloading version 2.5 from a BBS
somewhere. I immediately got addicted to it as did most of the
people in my office who had EGA machines. We sent Nels the money
to register our copy and got a version of EGA Trek as well.
Along comes version 3.3 with it's tile editing capabilities which
adds a whole new creative aspect to the game. I think people are
spending more time designing tile sets than actually playing the
game.
It took a couple of days to decide what to do a set on and one
day while flipping through the channels on the TV, it suddenly
hit me...TELEVISION! It certainly is graphics oriented enough to
base a set of tiles on. Originally, I thought I could fill up an
entire set with just network logos from cable TV, but after
looking through my cable listings, it turned out it would only
supply me with half of the tiles. Time to get creative. Along
comes tiles like TV, VCR, Camcorder, Satellite Dish... Oh no! I'm
running out of ideas! How about a presidential address to stretch
the subject a bit.
Well, I finally finished it after about a month of flipping
through channels and recording network logos before TV shows
would start. Now maybe I can get some sleep, although I was
thinking about an idea for another set...(What's that dear?
OK, I'm almost done...)
The tiles in this set are as follows:
Television Networks/Logos: Television Miscellaneous:
1) NBC Peacock (new) 22) Presidential Address
2) CBS 23) Couch Potato
3) ABC 24) Close Captioned
4) Disney Channel 25) Stereo
5) FOX Television 26) Cable TV
6) Music Television 27) TV Antenna
7) Video Hits One 28) Satellite Dish
8) Home Box Office 29) Camcorder
9) PBS 30) Video Recorder
10) ESPN 31) Television Set
11) Turner Network Television 32) Easy Chair
12) TBS Super Station 33) TV Guide
13) Lifetime Television 34) Remote Control
14) Nickelodeon
15) Arts & Entertainment Television Food:
16) SA Network 35) Popcorn
17) Headline News 36) Soda
18) The Discovery Channel 37) Chips

20) Cable Network News
21) NBC N (old) Television Interruptions:
39) Please Stand By...
40) Programming Interruption
41) Static
42) Test Pattern
I have tried to re-create the network logos as accurately as
possible, given the limited resolution and colors, but that only
adds to the challenge.
I do not expect any kind of remuneration for my labors, I'm
satisfied in knowing that you enjoy my efforts. I do not have
permission of any kind to use these logos, but I suppose I should
give credit to the appropriate networks...Consider yourself
credited. I also hereby declare that any company claiming
ownership of any of the graphic representations presented herein
may claim an amount equal to 1/42 of the total amount of net
income that I receive from this product.
Happy Computing!
