British Aerospace Corp. Vulcan Strategic Bomber Dec 13,92
created and copywrite by Vic Palermo CIS 70632,752
This zip files contains the files for the BAC Vulcan Bomber.
The Vulcan bomber was a contemporary of the the B-52'2, first flying in
1952. This aircraft was easily recognized as it is a hugh delta wing, with
a span of about 100' and a length of 99'. The load engines producing 80k
of thrust propelled this hugh aircraft up to 650 kts. The same engines are
used in the Concorde.
I love this aircraft, and it always was one of my favourite airshow
participants. It was a real sight to see the pilot put one of these hugh
machines through it's paces around the Abbotsford airfield. Locally, this
aircraft was known as the "Great Chicken Killer". Apparently, on year, the
a Vulcan in full zone afterburner passed over one of the many chicken farms near
the airport and thousands of chickens died of "fright". (No Kidding). The
only time that these aircraft were used in anger was during the Falklands
war. A few days after the invasion, two Vulcans, loaded with runway busting
bombs, perhaps durandels, but I think it was some other special ordnance, and
also loaded with Aim-9's!! were tasked to put out the runway at Stanley. The
mission was flown at night, and although they failed to completely close the
airport, the runway was rendered not jet capable. This really interfered with
the Argentine supply scheduel. The fact that they put Aim-9's on the aircraft
indicates that they must have thought that the vulcans could at least have some
chance in an air to air encounter. The aircraft is very manouevreble.
The model I built is after the low level penetration bomber type as used
in the Falklands. It has a refueling probe, and is a Mark 2 version of the
bomber. I built the wing as a 3d structure so that you can see that it has
thickness. I also coloured the aircraft in dark grey with green camouflage.
I have tried to use camo before, but this time I think the outcome is
ok. From external views greater then 150 ft; as you turn the aircraft, the
rendering looks pretty authentic. The model is that of a heavy aircraft so
expect a lot of mememtum. Those big wings take some effort to move and stop.
The pitch handling characteristics are quite good, as you might expect on
such a lage delta wing design. You do not need flaps on takeoff. As a matter
of fact, the flaps control spoilers. Takeoff is normal, rotate at about
150 kts. approach speeds for landing should be around 130 kts. You can
trim out so that the nose is slightly up for landing. Have fun with this one.
The following files are included:
README DOC - This file.
VULCAN__ - The two files of the Vulcan bomber to put into your
VULCAN__ SIM FS directory.
Note: AAF is not needed to fly this sim.
Any response would be welcomed. Reminder: The vulcan bomber is not
multi player capable. I did not upload the .afx file, but I will be happy to do so
if so requested. Reminder, No commercial purpose is granted for these aircraft
(or any of my other aircraft for that matter) without my permission or approval.
ciao and enjoy.
