PERSONALIZING THIS DISK
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
One of the principal advantages electronic publishing offers
you is flexibility. Flexibility to change any BOOK-ON-DISK in
CDA's collection to reflect your own experiences, preferences or
cooking techniques and equipment.
Perhaps your electric oven cooks 25 degrees hotter than normal.
Or, you prefer the use of margarine over butter. CBOOK lets you
adjust any recipe accordingly -- quickly, easily and without
marring the appearance of your original BOOK-ON-DISK.
Some suggested uses include --
* Keep track of what you served to whom. Put the last
name and date in # 12 Occasion.
* Note recipes suited for dietary restrictions. Put
"LOW SODIUM", for example, in # 13 Comments.
* Adjust cooking temperature in Instructions to
compensate for your oven.
* Note complementary recipes or wines in # 13 Comments.
There is really no limit to the ways you can make this disk
particularly suited to you. Items # 13 & 14, the Comment fields,
are especially suited for this purpose. They are "string search"
items by design. In other words, any word, letter or number that
you enter in either 13 or 14 can later be used as a tag to
recall the recipe by typing in the identical "string" later.
Any item in any recipe can be edited by you. Certain items
(Comments, Occasion, Difficulty) are specifically included to let
you build a personal reference library of recipes ideally suited
to your tastes and lifestyle.
To encourage this use of our BOOKS-ON-DISK we have made every
part of the program and recipe disk easy to copy. PC-DOS has
both a full disk copy and a file copy program included. Either
will simply back up our disks at any time.
We urge you to make a backup copy of your disk before editing,
both to insure against misshaps and to preserve the original work
of our authors. And we sincerely ask that you keep these copies
for your own use. We work hard to price our products fairly and
within the reach of anyone who wants them. Passing copies along
to friends is more than a copyright violation -- it is a
violation of the trust that allows us to produce new products for
your enjoyment.

EDITING
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Select SEARCH/EDIT/DELETE from the Main Menu. Select the recipe
to edit. (See chapter 2 if necessary.) Display the screen
containing the information to edit.
Press "E" to edit. Enter the line number associated with the
item and press <RETURN>. Enter the new information. Press
<RETURN> again. Repeat for each line you want to change.
When done with any screen, press <RETURN> twice. The menu at
the bottom of the screen will direct you to proceed for other
screens in the same recipe, and prompt you to move to other
recipes if you choose.
Remember as you edit the index screen that each item has a
special purpose to help you locate recipes in meal planning. By
placing the the name of a friend who favors a particular food
item in Comments, for example, you can later plan the perfect
dinner party for that person, simply by searching for the name.
When editing the Ingredients screen, follow this format to
insure proper resizing later:
Numbers appear in the left column, descriptions in the right.
Ex: 2 CUPS SUGAR
or: 2 TO
2-1/2 CUPS SUGAR
Whole numbers, fractions and combinations appear as follows --
Ex: 1 1/2 1-1/2
When editing the Instructions screen, each line is identified
by number. You must re-type the complete line.
