OVERVIEW
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Menu Planning with your BOOK-ON-DISK can involve the use of one
or more key features, depending on your personal style and on the
number of recipes to be included. Generally, it is most
efficient to use a sequence of steps involving SEARCH, MARK,
RESIZE and PRINT.
Using these features, you first define to the computer the
recipes for which you are looking, one type at a time, by filling
in the blanks on an index screen. After choosing a recipe, you
press the "K" key to electronically mark it for later printing.
At this time you may also resize it to serve more or fewer diners
than the recipe specifies.
Once every recipe you want has been marked, return to the MAIN
MENU, choose #3, for a print menu and select PRINT MARKED
RECIPES. Details on printing formats are explained in a later
chapter.

THE SEARCH
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Every recipe on this disk is organized into three screens -- an
INDE(X), (L)IST OF INGREDIENTS and (I)NSTRUCTIONS. Movement from
screen to screen is accomplished by typing the letter shown in
parentheses when any of the three screens is displayed.
Searching involves the use of the Index and/or List of
ingredient screens.
To begin, select #1 SEARCH/EDIT/DELETE from the Main Menu.
Your screen will show an index page with 14 blanks labeled for
entry, plus the name of the recipe file at the top, and a
reference to recipe numbers at the bottom. If you know the number
of the recipe you want, simply type this number for instant
access. More often, you'll want to use the index items. To do so,
press <RETURN>, and your cursor will move to the first index
item. One by one, you may enter search information next to as
many or as few items as you wish. Press <RETURN> after typing in
the information to move on. Press <RETURN> next to the blank item
to skip it. Press <ESCAPE> when done. If you make a mistake, you
can correct it after pressing <ESCAPE> by typing in the line
number to be changed.
Searching has been designed with you, the cook, in mind. Some
of the items look for a match from left to right (key search).
Some look for strings of characters or words. Others look for
ranges. Still others use CDA's exclusive FASTRAC system that
inserts a complete word or phrase when you press a numeric key.
You need not worry about which is which, but by following some
simple rules, you will greatly increase the speed of your
searching and meal planning.
Follow these rules:
ITEM ENTRY
_________________________________________________________________

EG. "APP" for APPLE PIE
2. Key Ingredient Same as #1. EG. EGGPL for EGGPLANT
3. Key Word Same as #1. EG. BAK for BAKED
4. Cuisine Same as #1. EG. FR for FRENCH
5. Source Same as #1. EG. BAGW for BAGWELLS

intended use here (eg. birthday,July
4th, Thanksgiving).
13.Comments Searches both 13 & 14 for entry.
14.Comments Searches both 14 & 13 for entry. These

__________________________________________________________________
FILL IN AS FEW ITEMS AS IS NECESSARY TO DEFINE THE RECIPE YOU
ARE LOOKING FOR. When you are done you may go back to edit your
work (ENTER THE LINE NUMBER) or proceed (PRESS <RETURN>).
CBOOK also lets you search for recipes that use particular
combinations of ingredients; say bell peppers, tomatoes and
garlic for example. To do so in combination with other index
items, answer "Y" to the question "Search by additional
ingredients? (Y/N)". To use only this feature, leave all of the
index items blank, but fill in the ingredients. Always put only
one ingredient per line when searching, but order and position
are not important.
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
MARKING
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Your search will show you every recipe that meets your defined
needs, one at a time. There may be more than one. To see them
all, press the "F" key to move forward; press "B" to move back
and review. If you want to use a recipe, you may print it when
displayed "P", or save it for batch printing later by marking it
with the "K" key. If you are printing more than one or two
recipes, we recommend this marking method.
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
RESIZING
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
You can automatically adjust any recipe for 1 to 999 servings.
With any of the three recipe screens displayed, select "R". Type
in the new serving size and press <RETURN>. The original serving
size and proportions are always retained and can only be
permanently altered via the editing features explained in a
later chapter, PERSONALIZING THIS DISK.
CBOOK resizes ingredients mathematically. Not all ingredients
in all recipes can be adjusted this way, and we urge you to use
your good cooking judgement in combination with this feature.
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
PRINTING
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Marked recipes can be printed by returning to the Main Menu,
and choosing #3 PRINT RECIPES. Select PRINT MARKED RECIPES from
the printer menu thus displayed.
See the chapter on PRINTING OPTIONS for a detailed explanation
of printing recipes in various formats and on different types of
stock, including index cards.
