CHANGES Version 1.02
DoIt now passes the filenote, flags, date and time to an updated archive
in the CONVIT (ConvertIt) archive update routine.
WHAT IS DOIT
DoIt is a 2.0 ONLY program that makes use of app-windows to make
things like showing pictures, playing anims, playing sounds, reading
text, playing music, adding icons, archiving files, editing icons,
converting older archivies to new ones and more. In fact, you can
act upon different files the way you want. You can use your favorite
gif viewer to automatically view a gif file when you drop it in DoIt's
window or your sound player for sounds. Any file may be acted upon
the way you want! DoIt knows many filetypes and you can teach it
many others. DoIt acts upon the following file types:
Brush Text ANIM Picture MOD MED Sound
(LHA, LZH, ZOO, ARC archives) MovieSetter anims SMUS GIF
Let's say you have 6 files in one directory, 4 in another, and 2 in
still another, you want these files to have icons. Just drop all of
them in DoIt's window titled "Iconit." DoIt will put the icons on
these files, with the Default Tool for you!
DOIT
Droping file(s) into Doit's window titled 'Doit' will do one action at
a time. Let's say you drop a few sound files from your sound dir and
anims from your anim dir and docs ect. DoIt will act on each one until
that task is completed before going on to the next task. You can also
drop a single directory in DoIt and all files in the directory will be
acted upon. How does DoIt know what to do? In the tool types of DoIt
is a list of file types with a space after each one followed by a dos
comand. You may need to edit this to have DoIt act upon files the way
your system is setup. The path to the comands must be included if the
comand is not in the c directory. You can also give options such as
`Picture SuperView -s10' would show your picture for 10 sec. then go to
the next action. You can edit the tool types by placing DoIt's icon in
EditIcon, changing the tooltypes needed, then pressing the
SaveIcon
button. Please note you only have a few minutes to do this in the DEMO
version so try changing one at a time then test it. Each window of DoIt
is exited by clicking the close button at the top left of the window.
The close button on DoIt's main window will quit DoIt. Sometimes you may
want DoIt to STOP acting upon the files you dropped in the window. Do this
from the pull down window titled STOP! You need LHA in your c: directory.
Dropping LHA or LZH archives in DoIt will open a new Archive window,
listing the files in the archive. You should only drop ONE archive in
DoIt's main window. After the Archive window comes up listing the files
you may now add as many archives as you like in this window. The top
listing is the current list of files in the archive you used. The N before
the filename means don't unarc. click on the file name and the N becomes
Y. Click the
SelAll
button and all N's become Y's meaning you want these
files to be unarc'ed you can toggle the Y's & N's by clicking and holding
the mouse button moving the pointer down the list. If there are files
past the displayed list, keeping the mouse button pressed and at the end
of the shown list moving the mouse a little to the left and right,
will move the list up as it toggles the Y's & N's. After you have the
files you want marked with Y, click the UnArc button. The path for the
UnArchived files is in the field to the right of the UnArc button. This
is preset to ram: in DoIt's tool types after ArchivePath. You can change
it in the tool types. You can also click in the field and change it before
you click
UnArc
. Sometimes you may want to create a directory in ram or
on a disk for your UnArchived files to go. Just type it in the field after
the device, for example ram:tempdir would make a directory tempdir in ram:
and your files would be unarched there. After your files have been unarched
DoIt will show the file type where the Y was. If you click on the file
now it will act upon the file as if you dropped it in DoIt! Great way to
check out the files don't you think? If there was an archive in the
archive, it will be placed in the second list. You can also drop other
archives in the window. Clicking on this second list will show the files
in the top list as before. Note any file you left with an N will be deleted
from the list. If the
DELETE
button is pressed it will HILITE and any file
name you click twice will be deleted. The
DELETE
button toggles on and off.
The
ALL
button will delete all files in the list when clicked twice if
the
DELETE
button is toggled on.
RUNIT
Dropping files in Runit is just like Doit except DoIt will not wait for
the file to finish being acted upon before going to the next! Be careful
when using this option as you could pop up 50 pictures at once and run
out of memory.
ICONIT
Iconit works like Doit's app-window except for a directory. Files dropped
in Iconit will be given a 'floating' Default icon. From workbench select
show all files and view by icon. Pick up the files you want to add icons
to and drop them in DoIt's window titled `Iconit'. DoIt will save default
icons to these files. They are not snapshoted yet so if you want them to
be placed in a permanent position, use workbench to do so. I kind of like
floating icons, it's like instant clean up!
DoIt can automatically add the following icons to files without icons.
I have included a drawer of icons for use in DoIt. You can change
them to your liking, but don't change the names. They are:
ANIM Brush BrushAnim Deck Directory
lh1 lh5 MED MOD picture
Program Sound text unknown SMUS
The icon drawer should be in the same directory as DoIt or the path given
in DoIt's tool types. Example: `IconPath DH0:graphics/icons'
When DoIt first comes up you should see the path for icons on your WB
title bar. The defalt Archive path and user are also shown. More on this
later. The user will be DEMO if you don't have your ID number yet.
EDITICON
DoIt has a built in icon editor with some features' others don't have.
To use it, drop a single icon in DoIt's window titled "EditIcon."
On the top left side of the window you will see your icon and just
below it the alt icon if it has one. You can resize the icon by
clicking on the top icon and moving your mouse to get the size wanted.
Release the left mouse button when you have the work area you need.
You can change it at anytime, just select the arrow tool and resize
like before. The other tools, dot, line, fill, box, circle and ellipse
are selected by placing the arrow over the tool and clicking the left
mouse button. You will notice the bottom halves of the box, circle and
ellipse tools are solid. As you might have guessed clicking the bottom
will give you a solid, while the top gives you a frame. Your pointer will
change to show you what tool you are using. Below the tools are the
BORDER
&
MIRROR
buttons.
BORDER
works with the solid tools and draws the
solid in pen1 and places a border with pen2 in it. You can change the pen
colors by clicking on the boxes below
ZOOM
ED
buttons. The number of colors
is what ever you have workbench set as.
MIRROR
will cause the alt-icon
to receive the same action the top icon gets. This is true for all tools
and text. However in zoom mode MIRROR will use pen1 on the top icon and
pen2 on the alt-icon. In
ZOOM
mode, selected by clicking zoom then
placing the box over the TOP icon and clicking, you can only use the dot
tool on the zoomed area on the bottom left. To leave zoom select the
ARROW tool. The
FONT
button will let you load fonts to add to your icon.
Click
FONT
and your fonts: directory appears in a requester.
Select the font you want to use from the list left on the left side of
the requester. Next select the point size on the right side of the
requester. If you have fonts in another directory, change the path in
the requester. To the left of the text button is a field for typing text
to use. Click in the field, right amiga x to clear, and type your text.
Press return and below the field you will see your text in pen1. You can
change the color as you do with the tools. The
BOLD
,
ITALIC
,
SHADOW
,
OUTLINE
, and
GHOSTED
buttons set the style of the text. Some make use
of pen2 color. To use the text click the
TEXT
button, it will HILITE.
Next you can click on the text (below the text field) to set the
placement. Now go to the icon area you want to place the text and click,
and move the text to the place you want, the release the mouse button.
MIRROR
will work with text like the tools. If you make an error the
UNDO
button will take back your last action. The
SCROLL
button lets you scroll
the icon image by clicking on the top or bottom image and slowly moving
your mouse to the wanted position and releasing the mouse. Besides editing
the icon you can add a filenote, change the Default tool, and add tool
types. Often I had tool types in one icon I wanted in another, so I made
the Tool Types list an app-window. Drop an icon in there and the tool
types are added. Dropping brushes in the Brushes list will add them to the
list. Clicking on a brush name will show the brush in the same area as the
text is shown. Clicking the
BRUSH
button then the icon area will add the
brush just like the text. You can save the icon with the
SaveIcon
button.
The filename of the icon is in a field below the
SaveIcon
button. You can
change the name to save the icon to somewhere else. You can edit other
icons by dropping them in the window. The image of the new icons is added
to the brush list. If you have not registered, DoIt will nag you from
time to time to do so.
ARCIT
You need LHA in your C: directory. Dropping files in ArcIt will bring up
a window showing all the files and directories. You can add to this list
by dropping more files in it's window. Clicking twice on the file name
will delete it from the list. In the field next to the LHA button is the
name of the archive to be created. To the right of it is a check mark
and the word Icons. If you want the icons of the filenames (if any)
archived with the files, this needs to be checked. Note directories will
save the icons in them anyway. Click the LHA Button and the archive will
be created. Afterwords the list will go blank waiting for new files to be
dropped in. If the name in the field points to an existing archive, files
will be added to that archive. Clicking the close button on the top left
of the window will exit back to DoIt's main window.
CONVIT (ConvertIt)
A quick and easy way to update your older zoo arc lzh and ZIP files in to
LHA 5 archives is to drop the old files in Convit. Whole directories can
be dropped in, or just selected files. You need LHA in your C:directory
as well as UNZIP arc and zoo for it to work on there files. The window
will show the number it is on and how many files it has to do. When all
files are converted the window title will show `Conversion Complete'.
At this time you can drop more files in its window to convert. The close
button will return to DoIt's main screen. If you have little memory and
big files, you may not want to use this feature without first backing
up your files. Don't yell at me if you lose a file, I have tested and
re-tested with no problems but the temp files do use ram: so you need
enough to complete the conversion. The filenote, flags and date are passed
to the updated archive.
