RunAMax by Shachar Shemesh. 11th February, 1992
If you own a HardDisk and AMax you have probably encountered the fact
that AMax takes the colors to be used by the Mac (when setting the "Colors"
button to system) from the workbench screen. This is all fine and well if
you only have a floppy, but if you also own a HD then AMax will usually use
the standard Workbench colors (whatever system this is). The result is not
as pretty and as Macy as it can get, but rather blue on white or !@#$%^,
depanding if you use 1.3 or 2.0.
You can, of course, run preferences before running AMax, and change the
colors to something more suitable for AMax use, but that means running
preferences before each and every time you use AMax. Further more - you
need to manually set the colors each time.
In addition to that, if you own a HD you probably want one or more AMax
partitions. This means having an ugly icon saying "AMAX:!@#$%" on your WB
at all times.
There is a way you can make that partition non Auto-Config (using your
HD formatter program), and creating a MountList entry that will only be
mounted before AMax is run, but this means you cannot run AMax without
first entering CLI and mounting your AMax partition.
RunAMax is a program designed to solve both problems. It will both
mount your AMax partitions, and set the colors to ones that will resemble
the Mac. RunAMax is a small Assembly program that is ment to be modify by
you to fit your own taste.
To run AMax now, just type "RunAMax" from CLI, or double click the
"StartAMax" icon from WB. The reason for the diffrence is that, due to the
fact that it runs the "Mount" command, RunAMax only runs from CLI. ANY
attempt to run it directly from WB will Guru in the worst case, and
Software fail in the best case. To solve the problem RunAMax comes with an
icon that has a reference to IconX.
In order to change the colors used, change the lines at the start of the
program defining BACKGROUND and FOREGROUND. Current values are $000 and
$888 respectivly. Note that the colors AMax will use are reverse order of
these colors. To change the partition name or the way you run the actual
AMax change the strings with the labels "MountCommand" and "AMaxCommand".
The strings currently reflect the way AMax is configured on my system. All
you have to do now is recompile and run.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Since this program uses IconX, it has a text file called
"StartAMax", in addition to the program itself "RunAMax". If copying the
program from WB, only "StartAMax" will be copied. "RunAMax" must be copied
from CLI.
This program is completly Public Domain. You can change it to fit
your needs, redistribute it, recompile it, and generally abuse it as
much as you want, so long as the following conditons are met:
a. My name is not removed from the docs, the source, or anywhere else it
appears now.
b. No files are removed from the archive.
c. No profit is done on this program.

I also have an account on the Internet that would probably be active untill
the end of this accademic year (1992).
engst77@ccsg.tau.ac.il
After that my account will probably be
sun@ccsg.tau.ac.il
The first account will still be active then, BUT IT WILL NOT BE MINE! If
you're not sure, finger it and see if my name appears in the plan. My name
will not appear in the Real Name field even if the account is mine, only in
the plan. Protests about this way of doing things should be sent to one of
the following addresses (in that order)
