This is an animation made with VideoScape 3D 2.0 by Allen Hastings. It
demonstrates several new features in VideoScape 2.0.
The first is mirror color. The teapot is made up of many small polygons,
all given the mirror color. With mirror color, the color of any polygon
face depends on its orientation in that frame of the scene. If the polygon
face points to the sky, then it takes on the sky color. If the face points
to the ground, then it takes on the ground color. This gives the eye
the illusion of reflective metal. The illusion of metal comes from
the apparent horizon visible on the reflected surface.
This is not a ray-traced animation. If there is another object in the
scene, it will not be visible on the surface of the teapot. Mirror mode
might be called "vampire mode," because you can't see things in its
mirrored surfaces.
The second is Phong shading, which makes polygon-based objects look smooth.
They normally look machine-like, with sharp edges.
