Graphs and Tracks is designed to help introductory physics students develop an understanding of graphs of position, velocity and acceleration vs. time. Students are presented with graphs of one-dimensional motion and an adjustable arrangement of sloping tracks on which a ball rolls. They are challenged to reproduce the given graphs by adjusting the incline of the tracks, selecting values of initial position and initial velocity, and rolling the ball. As the ball rolls, a graph of its actual motion is superposed on the given graph. If the two graphs do not coincide, the student must make adjustments until they do. Students may view any particular motion in terms of either position, velocity or acceleration. Adjustments of the incline of the ramps and of the initial position and initial velocity of the ball are made by clicking or dragging the mouse. Help in the form of highlighting of student errors and verbal feedback is available at any time. Arbitrary examples may be saved by the teacher or by the student. This program has been used on Andrew workstations, IBM PC's and Macintoshes in several introductory physics courses, at Carnegie Mellon, the University of Washington, Dickinson College and elsewhere.
