  6. **** WINDOWS USERS:

  8. This disk includes a Windows-based hypertext guide to
  9. all the software on the disk. We recommend that Windows
  10. users view the disk using the hypertext guide. To 
  11. start the guide, run

  13.     dr:win_demo

  15. where "dr" is the drive designator for the CD-ROM drive
  16. containing the demo disk.

  37. To install these products (and other products) under
  38. DOS, locate the product's home directory using the list
  39. below and study the supplied documentation to determine
  40. how to perform the installation. In most cases, you will
  41. be able to run an install program which will copy the 
  42. necessary files to your hard disk. In some cases you will
  43. need to perform the copy yourself using something equivalent
  44. to 
  45.     xcopy /e <source> <dest>
  46.  
  47. In a few cases, you will need to copy all the files from
  48. the CD-ROM to a floppy disk before you can being the install.
  49. In many cases, the software is zipped or otherwise archived. 
  50. You may need to supply the appropriate programs to expand
  51. the archives after placing them on your hard drive.
  52.  
  53. In many cases, there will be extraneous files (especially .hlp 
  54. and other documentation files) in the product's home directory.
  55. These files were extracted from the various archives to make 
  56. them available to the Windows hypertext guide. In all cases,
  57. the original archive file remains unchanged. 
  58.  
  59. **** PROBLEMS "FINDING" FILES
  60.  
  61. Some programs will report that they can't find certain files
  62. (e.g. bitmap files, etc.) when run from the CD -- even though
  63. those files are clearly present. These errors are
  64. a side-effect of the program attempting to open the file with
  65. read/write permissions. Virtually all of these demos were 
  66. developed for distribution via floppy, where asking for 
  67. read/write permission when only read permission is required
  68. is an innocuous error. To make these programs run correctly,
  69. copy all files and subdirectories of the pertinent application to
  70. a hard-disk or floppy disk.
