  7. --- MODEM / SERIAL GAME ---

  9. When you're networked with several players, you can run EARTH 2140
  10. using a Modem or Null modem cable.
  11. Click on  SERIAL / MODEM in the main menu and choose your connection.
  12. If you're using a Null modem cable, make sure it's a commercial make.
  13.  
  14. One player chooses the option CALL and the other WAIT FOR CALL.
  15. The player doing the calling is the game controller. Before you click
  16. on CONNECT to start the game, select the serial port to which your
  17. zero cable is connected.

  19. Playing a game via modem is very similar.If you're the caller you'll
  20. see a window asking for the number you want dialled. If you're the
  21. receiver, but can't take the call, select MANUAL CALL RECEIVE.

  23. All other settings are similar to those of a network, and are fully
  24. described in your handbook.

  27. --- EARTH 2140 ON A PC WITH TWO CD-ROM DRIVES ---

  29. Always use number one drive for installation and to start the game.
  30. EARTH 2140 also uses the number one drive for playing the CD music.

  33. --- EARTH 2140 AND CARDS WITH S3 V+ CHIP ---
  34.  
  35. On some cards which use the Trio 64 V+ graphics processor, you may have
  36. some problems with the graphics themselves. Some cards show no graphics
  37. at all! To play EARTH 2140 in this case, use a VESA/VBE Driver (e.g.,
  38. Scitech's UniVBE). See the troubleshooting section of your handbook for
  39. more details.

  42. --- PLAY YOUR OWN CD MUSIC ---

  44. If you want to use your own CD music while playing EARTH 2140, click on
  45. MUSIC (in the Game Controls menu) and insert your CD into the drive.
  46. When you've finished your current mission, the program may ask you to
  47. insert the EARTH 2140 CD. Use your own CD only with MAXIMUM Installation
  48. setting.

  50. If you start EARTH 2140 on Windows 95, you must first call up the program
  51. WININST.EXE from the EARTH 2140 CD-Rom and click on DON'T SHOW WINDOW.
  52. This way you'll avoid the AUTORUN automatic procedure the next time you
  53. insert the EARTH 2140 CD-Rom.

  56. --- CTRL AND CURSORKEYS ---

  58. Due to technical difficulties, the keys CTRL and CURSOR ARROWS cannot
  59. be used as described in your handbook.
