Click on SERIAL / MODEM in the main menu and choose your connection. If you're using a Null modem cable, make sure it's a commercial make. One player chooses the option CALL and the other WAIT FOR CALL. The player doing the calling is the game controller. Before you click on CONNECT to start the game, select the serial port to which your zero cable is connected. Playing a game via modem is very similar.If you're the caller you'll see a window asking for the number you want dialled. If you're the receiver, but can't take the call, select MANUAL CALL RECEIVE. All other settings are similar to those of a network, and are fully described in your handbook. --- EARTH 2140 ON A PC WITH TWO CD-ROM DRIVES --- Always use number one drive for installation and to start the game. EARTH 2140 also uses the number one drive for playing the CD music. --- EARTH 2140 AND CARDS WITH S3 V+ CHIP --- On some cards which use the Trio 64 V+ graphics processor, you may have some problems with the graphics themselves. Some cards show no graphics at all! To play EARTH 2140 in this case, use a VESA/VBE Driver (e.g., Scitech's UniVBE). See the troubleshooting section of your handbook for more details. --- PLAY YOUR OWN CD MUSIC --- If you want to use your own CD music while playing EARTH 2140, click on MUSIC (in the Game Controls menu) and insert your CD into the drive. When you've finished your current mission, the program may ask you to insert the EARTH 2140 CD. Use your own CD only with MAXIMUM Installation setting. If you start EARTH 2140 on Windows 95, you must first call up the program WININST.EXE from the EARTH 2140 CD-Rom and click on DON'T SHOW WINDOW. This way you'll avoid the AUTORUN automatic procedure the next time you insert the EARTH 2140 CD-Rom. --- CTRL AND CURSORKEYS --- Due to technical difficulties, the keys CTRL and CURSOR ARROWS cannot be used as described in your handbook.
