X-MON 2.3
Extended Monitor Driver
__________________________________________________________________________
X-MON is a replacement for the driver supplied with Moniterm and
Matrix M110 display cards. X-MON has several advantages over the
supplied drivers:
- No known compatibility problems (it's been in use by many people
for over two years).
- Automatically detects whether the display board is installed so
it doesn't crash if the board is removed.
- Can be overridden during startup for those times when the use of
the standard (SM124 or SC1224) monitor is desired.
- Works properly regardless of whether an SM124 or SC1224 monitor
is attached to the ST's monitor port. It even works with no
monitor attached to the monitor port.
- Does not include a mouse accelerator, allowing the use of the
mouse accelerator of YOUR choosing.
- Blacks out an attached SM124 to prevent screen burn-in.
- One driver works on many boards, allowing for painless
reconfiguring of hardware (great for people using one hard drive
on different machines).
- Works properly on STs which have 68030 accelerators installed.

Using X-MON is extremely simple. Copy X_MON.PRG into the AUTO folder
of your boot drive (usually hard disk partition C: or a floppy) and
delete the old driver. Reboot the computer. That's it.
X-MON comes preconfigured for the Moniterm Viking. To reconfigure
X-MON or boot up using the SM124 or SC1224, simply hold down either
shift key while booting. You will then be presented with a menu of
configurations to choose from. To select a configuration, simply
press the number key on your keyboard corresponding to the desired
configuration. If you would like your configuration saved as the
default selection, press 'S'. If you would like to abort the
installation process, press 'A'. To proceed with the installation,
press RETURN.
If the display board is not installed in the computer, X-MON will
display a message stating such and won't install itself.
The combination of the shift-key configure/bypass and the automatic
board detection allows you to leave X_MON.PRG in your AUTO folder all
the time and forget about it. This is especially handly if you ever
use your hard disk on another machine which doesn't have the same
type of display as yours (for example, a friend's ST, or at a users'
group meeting).
Although the X-MON.PRG file is close to 3K, only around 400 bytes
will remain resident in the computer.

X-MON is shareware. This means that if you use X-MON on a regular
basis, you are obligated to pay for it. The price is a very low $15.
For those of you outside of the United States, I'd accept an
equivalent amount in your country's currency to add to my foreign
money collection. All checks and money orders should be in US
dollars.

Developers: X-MON has been written to allow for easy modifications to
support other video boards. As long as the board in question
arranges video memory like one of the existing ST video modes, X-MON
can be adapted to it readily. Contact me if you wish to discuss
licensing arrangements.
