TOP LOS GATOS COP TO LEAD CHIEFS
Mercury News Staff Report
Los Gatos Police Chief Larry Todd has been elected president of the
California Police Chiefs Association, whose members include 350 police chiefs
statewide.
Todd, 45, had been the association's first vice president.
''To be selected for this honor is truly the highlight of my law enforcement
career,'' said Todd, who has been in law enforcement for 25 years and has
been chief in Los Gatos since 1988.
As president of the association for the year, Todd will oversee the body's
four quarterly meetings and act as spokesman for the group on major crime and
police issues ranging from support for the ''three strikes and you're out''
initiative to the state budget crisis and opposition to the effort to recall
state Sen. David Roberti for his stand on gun control.
''One of the areas you'll see us most active in is protecting the rights of
local government as far as the (state) budget process is concerned,'' Todd
said. He said the association, for the first time, plans this year to endorse
political candidates.
