Excavation of a 1,100-Year-Old Fish Weir Site, New Brunswick.
This illustration shows archaeologists at work at a 1,100-year-old fishing weir site on the Tracadie estuary. This section of the estuary is today a fish and eel weir site for local Acadian fishermen.
The shape of the plot under investigation is typically square or rectangular in shape. This permits the area to be accurately documented and measured for record taking. Other excavation plots are added as the work of tracing the major archaeological deposits progresses.
