Chief Oshawana (Chief George H.M. Johnson of the Mohawks).
Chief Oshawana was Tecumseh's chief warrior at the battle of the River Thames during the War of 1812. Notice the way in which Indian silver ornaments are incorporated into European dress. He is wearing two crowns on a top hat and circular gorgets are attached over his sleeve. This photograph was taken from an 1836 daguerreotype.
