This life-sized wooden mask, painted with red ochre, was found on Bylot Island, in the District of Franklin. It appears to have originally had eyebrows and a moustache of fur, held on with pegs. The lines on the forehead, cheeks and chin may represent tattooing. Masks such as these were probably used in shamanistic performances.
