Having arrived in port, the seal pelts are being unloaded. The ship is barely visible on the right. A bundle of pelts is in the process of being dropped to the wharf. One flipper is left in each pelt and these are sold to the people who gather around after the ship docks. Flippers are considered a delicacy along the northeast coast.
