Unlike the craftsman's shop, there was a systematic division of labour in the manufactory, although there were still no machine tools connected to a main power source as would be the case in the factory. This illustration of a coach builder's workshop shows the division of labour: some of the workers are making the doors, others the body of the coach, others the wheels, others the metal parts, and so on. The workers still control their work, however, and produce at their own speed.
