-
- A really exciting day today. I travelled to the reserve after doing an hour
- or so at work, waiting for the N.R.A. to arrive. I noted the unexpectedly
- early growth of algae on the yew tree pond.
-
- A nunmber of people joined us during the day. There were three men from the
- N.R.A., who came with there boat and equipment. Two people from the Lake
- View angling club, Vic Moss, the JCB driver from the wildfowlers, Reg and
- Brian, and Leon Woodrow, also from the wildfowlers, turned up later.
-
- The boat was launched, as we watched, as they put their electified ring into
- the water. I was anxious that nothing would come out, but they soon brought
- up a few tench. They spent longest amongst the reedmace, and brought out
- quite a lot of fish. We watched the first carp, mirror and common carp,
- being transferred to the fibre glass tank trailor. There were a lot of 1
- year old carp, five of which I brought home for my aquarium.
-
- The men made three forays on to the pond, extracting most of the fish from
- the edges. Reg Brian and I watched from the Mill pightle for somr time.
-
- In all the NRA men who's jugement is more to be respected than mine reckoned
- they got about forty carp and a hundred tench. A few rudd were also caught.
-
- The JCB driver took a few tench and rudd home, and the other fish were
- distributed to two clubs. One was Lake View. The other was at St Osyth, near
- St Osyth Wick.
-
- During the day we saw several great spotted woodpeckers, mallards clinging
- to territories, sparrow hawk, bull finches, and long tailed tits.
