Jay Mitchell is an artist whose practice involves installation and space, born in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1958.
Scope and content
The work, entitled "Knots Boxed" by Jay Mitchell, 1997, consists of several items including a wooden knot "Knot Cornucopia/ Big Not Cut Knot," nine sealed plastic bags with wooden knots "Not Cut Knot" x 3, "Knot Tongue," "Knot Groove," "Beached Knot," "Big Cut Knot," "Knot Puzzle/Knot Broken/some missing pieces," "Connected T & G Knots/Knot Tongue in Knot Groove," a book "Knots booked" 13 x 18 cm, with a wood cover on the front boards, 7 pages, containing colour photoprints of "Knot Space" an installation by Mitchell, two white painted card boxes 14 x 8 x 2.5 cm, "Knots Boxed," and "not Tongue in Knot Groove/ Not Connected T & G Knots," containing two knots in each box, a plastic sleeve containing twenty-five copies of a one page text titled "Knot Information," intended for viewers to take away, and nine colour slides of "Knot Drawings," "Knot Sculptures" and "Knots."
