Marc Baril is an artist born in Quebec City, in 1966. He has been living in Vancouver since 1989 and has received a degree in music composition from the University of British Columbia. He is currently employed in the video game industry as a sound designer and composer.
Scope and content
The collection consists of a manuscript musical score "Cuckoo, soliloquy for viola and processed signal," by Marc Baril, 1995, one incense package and holder, a dictionary "A Basic English Shona Dictionary," Gewru, Zimbabwe: Mambo Press, 1990, two small albums of colour and black and white photoprints by Baril, 1996-1997, a stone elephant brought back by Baril from a trip to India, a postcard "Peter Bennett: A World Apart," a matchbox box brought by Baril from Thailand with matches form Water Street CafΘ, a CD- Rom entitled "Marc's Gallery," by Marc Baril, with manipulated versions of photographs from the mini albums an also with sound recordings, a guest book on a floppy disk, a book "Chomsky for Beginners, " by David Cogswell, New York: Writers and Readers Publishing, 1996, and a happy face bubble bottle.
Note
The artist noted that he finally bought a camera last December [1996] after years of dreaming of the day when he would finally have enough time for a hobby.
