Robert Gore is a librarian, poet, and visual artist, born in Sussex, New Brunswick, in 1958.
Scope and content
The collection consists of a cassette tape recording of the poem "Normandy", 1994, by Robert Gore, a folder containing copies of the poem intended for the public to take away, and a folder containing supporting documentation.
Note
The artist stated: "The first two lines of 'Normandy' came to me in a dream, in that strange time when your mind is moving between wakefulness and sleep. The lines were so startling to me that I woke up and wrote them down. Usually when I do this, I wake up the next morning and wonder where the bad poetry came from. But on this occasion the lines stayed with me for weeks, and sometimes later the rest of the poem came, in one quick fluid movement from the part of my mind that won't rest until the words are there."
