Wing Chow is an installation artist also producing photobased works, prints, and sculpture, born in 1951 in Poonyue, China. In 1974 he received a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of British Columbia after studies in graphics and painting, and in 1973 he attended G.R.A.F.F. printmaking Atelier with Pierre Ayot, in Montreal, and as well, in 1979 he pursued graduate studies in lithography at the Vancouver School of Art.
Scope and content
The collection consists of 29 colour photoprints originally composing a single photograph, representing the railway terminus at Vancouver, accompanied by a manuscript text on yellow card, based on the artist's recollections of Vancouver when he arrived as an immigrant, both excerpted from an installation by the artist entitled "Powell Street," 1997.
Note
The artist emphasized that the work concerns immigration, and particularly refers to the first Vancouver structure that an immigrant would encounter.
