Gu Xiong is a multimedia artist born in 1953 in Chongqing, China. He studied at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute from 1972-1985, receiving an Master of Fine Arts degree, and from 1989-1990 at the Winter Art Studio Program, as a resident artist at the Banff Center for the Arts, Banff, Alberta.
Scope and content
The work, entitled "Being the Original," 1997, consists of five annual photographs of Gu Yu, daughter of the artist, in the form of wallet size portraits 5 x 3.75 cm, as well as a collection of McDonald's Toys, accompanied by a text on red board.
