  18. When you print to a Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet Series III printer that
  19. has exactly 1 megabyte (MB) of memory, the following error message may
  20. appear on the LCD panel of the printer:

  22.    20: Memory Overflow
  23.  
  24. This message may appear even though the Windows NT Print Manager reflects
  25. that you have accurately set the amount of memory on the printer to 1024
  26. kilobytes (K).
  27.  
  28. The same file prints correctly from Microsoft Windows 3.1. However, if you
  29. select FILE: as the port within the Windows NT Print Manager and then
  30. attempt to print the resulting output file after you boot to MS-DOS with
  31. the "copy filename.prn lptx: /b" command, the above error message still
  32. appears.
  33.  
  34. CAUSE
  35. =====
  36.  
  37. This error message may appear when you attempt to print a file that
  38. contains a large amount of graphics or data per page. The printer driver
  39. used when printing to HP LaserJet Series III printers in Windows NT
  40. (HPPCL.DLL) sends too much information to the printer, which causes the
  41. memory buffer of the printer to overflow.

  43. RESOLUTION
  44. ==========

  46. To correct this problem, add memory to the printer.
  47.  
  48. One of the following steps may also correct this problem:
  49.  
  50.  - Decrease the amount of graphics and/or data per page.
  51.  
  52.  - Reduce the printer resolution (dots per inch).

  57. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.1. We
  58. are researching this problem and will post new information here in the
  59. Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
