  15. SYMPTOMS
  16. ========

  18. The following error message may appear when you attempt to run the CBT of
  19. Excel 5.0 under Windows NT by choosing Examples And Demos from the Help
  20. menu, and then selecting any topic:
  21.  
  22.    You cannot run the CBT with this operating system.
  23.  
  24. This error message does not appear if you choose Quick Preview from the
  25. Help menu, but your system may still stop responding (hang).
  26.  
  27. CAUSE
  28. =====
  29.  
  30. The Excel 5.0 CBT is not designed to run under Windows NT; this is to avoid
  31. direct access to graphics or any other devices. Excel 5.0 CBT is not
  32. recommended to run under Windows NT.
  33.  
  34. WORKAROUND
  35. ==========
  36.  
  37. To work around this behavior and to run the Excel 5.0 CBT under Windows NT,
  38. do the following steps:
  39.  
  40. 1. Create an EXCELCBT subdirectory under the EXCEL directory.
  41.  
  42. 2. Copy all the files from the EXCELCBT subdirectory from a Windows or
  43.    Windows for Workgroups computer.
  44.  
  45. 3. Edit the EXCEL5.INI file to have
  46.  
  47.       CBTLOCATION = <drive>:\EXCEL\EXCELCBT
  48.  
  49.    in [Microsoft Excel] section.
  50.  
  51. 4. Run Excel and the CBT by choosing Example and Demos from the Help menu.
  52.  
  53. The CBT should run fine after you have completed the above steps.
