  15. SYMPTOMS
  16. ========

  18. Windows NT defaults to standard VGA and the following Event Viewer error
  19. message appears when you use an ATI display driver on an AST Premmia series
  20. computer:
  21.  
  22.    ATIOEM accelerator not found.
  23.  
  24. CAUSE
  25. =====
  26.  
  27. Windows NT does not properly recognize the ATI display adapter on these
  28. systems.
  29.  
  30. RESOLUTION
  31. ==========
  32.  
  33. Modify the Windows NT registry so Windows NT will properly recognize the
  34. ATI display adapter on these systems.
  35.  
  36. To make the appropriate registry modification for this configuration, do
  37. the following steps:
  38.  
  39. WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide
  40.    problems that may require you to reinstall Windows NT to correct them.
  41.    Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of
  42.    Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own risk.
  43.  
  44. 1. Start the Windows NT Registry Editor (REGEDT32.EXE).
  45.  
  46. 2. Select the following key:
  47.  
  48.       HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ati\Device0
  49.  
  50. 3. Select the value ATIOEM, and then choose String from the Edit menu.
  51.  
  52. 4. Replace the text "\SystemRoot\System32\drivers\atioem.bin" with "AST"
  53.    (without the quotation marks).
  54.  
  55. 5. Choose OK, quit Registry Editor, and then shut down and restart Windows
  56.    NT.
  57.  
  58. NOTE: This is a symptom of what is mentioned in section 3.13 of the
  59. README.WRI document for Windows NT. Other systems known to be affected in
  60. the same manner are the following:
  61.  
  62.    Olivetti Pike PC
  63.    Zenith Z-Station
  64.
