  18. When you use the Windows NT Backup program to back up LAN Manager 2.x
  19. Services for Macintosh files, restored folders may not have their
  20. proper names restored. If the folder has a long filename, the restored
  21. folder name may be truncated to an 8.3-character filename. However,
  22. files will be restored with their proper names.

  24. CAUSE

  27. LAN Manager 2.x Services for Macintosh uses Extended Attributes (EAs)
  28. on both FAT and HPFS to store Macintosh information, including the
  29. LONGNAME. The Windows NT Backup program is not recognizing Extended
  30. Attributes on directories, but is recognizing them on long filenames,
  31. because they are restored.

  36. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.1
  37. and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. We are researching this
  38. problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge
  39. Base as it becomes available.
