- SYMPTOMS

- If you try to create a directory or subdirectory in File Manager whose
- total path from the root, including backslashes (\), will be longer
- that 245 characters, you will receive the following error message:

- File Manager cannot create directory. The filename or extension is
- too long.

- You will not be able create the directory.

- STATUS
- ======

- Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows
- NT Advanced Server version 3.1. We are researching this problem and
- will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it
- becomes available.
