  14. SYMPTOMS

  17. Windows NT Advanced Server may not be able to log in a user if the
  18. NetLogon service is not running on the system. Although the initial
  19. login screen is displayed, if you attempt to login, you may receive a
  20. message indicating that Windows NT Advanced Server was unable to
  21. validate the user because the NetLogon service is not running or
  22. started.
  23.  
  24. CAUSE
  25. =====
  26.  
  27. One of the reasons for the NetLogon service not starting could be due
  28. to the presence of a duplicate Windows NT Advanced Server computer
  29. name on the network.
  30.  
  31. Another cause could be incorrect settings for the NIC card.
  32.  
  33. RESOLUTION
  34. ==========
  35.  
  36. Disconnect the Windows NT Advanced Server computer from the network.
  37. It should now be possible to successfully log in to Windows NT
  38. Advanced Server. Change the computer name using the Network icon in
  39. the Control Panel.
  40.  
  41. Other causes may require reinstallation.
