  18. You may encounter a Trap 7F Exception Error and a STOP message when you are
  19. installing or using Windows NT or Windows NT Advanced Server. This
  20. exception error may have several possible causes, including corrupt system
  21. files or hardware problems.
  22.  
  23. CAUSE
  24. =====
  25.  
  26. The following is a list of known causes of this error:
  27.  
  28.  - Corrupt files. File system drivers (FASTFAT.SYS, HPFS.SYS or
  29.    NTFS.SYS) or other critical system files.
  30.  
  31.  - Low-level hardware problems, such as mismatched RAM memory modules
  32.    or a defective motherboard. In this case the error may occur when
  33.    switching from character mode to graphical mode during Setup.
  34.  
  35. RESOLUTION

  38. To troubleshoot this problem, do the following:
  39.  
  40. 1. Start the computer from the Windows NT Setup Disk 1 and select
  41.    Repair mode and then select "Verify Windows NT System Files" from the
  42.    repair menu. Any corrupt files should be replaced. If the error still
  43.    occurs, go to step 2.
  44.  
  45. 2. Run diagnostic software and test the RAM in the machine. Replace
  46.    any RAM reported to be bad. Also, make sure that all the RAM in the
  47.    computer is the same speed. If the error still occurs, go to step 3.
  48.  
  49. 3. At this point, try a different motherboard on the computer because
  50.    it may be the faulty component.
