- TITLE :HP SCSI Tape Drives Not Supported with Adaptec 174x Series
- PRODUCT :Windows NT
- PROD/VER:3.10
- OPER/SYS:WINDOWS
- KEYWORDS:

- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
- The information in this article applies to:
-
- - Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
- - Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- The Hardware Compatibility List for Windows NT states that the
- following Hewlett-Packard (HP) SCSI tape drives are not supported on
- the Adaptec AHA-1742A SCSI Host Adapter:
-
- Hewlett-Packard 35470a
- Hewlett-Packard C1503a
- Hewlett-Packard C2224c
-
- This information is correct; however, the entire Adaptec AHA-174x
- series is based on the same chip set. Therefore, these Hewlett-Packard
- SCSI tape drives will not function properly on any adapters in this
- series, such as the AHA-1740.
-
- You may be able to get these Hewlett-Packard SCSI tape devices to work
- properly on the Adaptec AHA-174x series SCSI host adapters by placing
- the Adaptec card in standard mode, which forces the host adapter into
- an AHA-154x emulation mode. This is done through jumpers on the card.
-
- NOTE: Before you change the 174x SCSI card to emulate a 154x, you must
- also change the Windows NT SCSI driver using Windows NT Setup in the
- Main group. Using Setup, Add the Adaptec 154x driver and Remove the
- 174x driver.
