- The information in this article applies to:
-
- - Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1
- - Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1

-
- You cannot start Remote Access Phone Book with the Network Control
- Panel RAS configuration screen open if you have the RAS Server service
- running. Doing so results in a popup error message:
-
- Cannot Start RAS Manager. Error 1055: The service database is locked.
-
- Go to Control Panel and start the Network application. Select RAS from
- the installed software box and choose Configure. If you start RAS
- Phone Book in this state, you receive the above error.
-
- When you initially start RAS Phone Book, you are actually starting the
- Remote Access Connection Manager service. If you go to a command
- prompt and type "net start" (without the quotation marks) with RAS
- running, you see this service. The error is actually caused because
- this service is unable to read the Registry while it is in use by the
- Network application. In addition, if you edit a RAS entry in Control
- Panel, you must close the Network application out before start RAS
- Phone.
-
- This error is not found in the normal RAS Phone help error list.
