UPDATE Data allows records to be updated and browsed. It can only be used to
update or browse EXISTING records, to NOT add NEW records. Refer to ADD Data
for adding new records via CARDFILE.
To use the UPDATE Data option:
1. Press <U> from the CARDFILE MAIN MENU. If a data file has been selected and
has data in it, the screen will clear and a blank data entry screen will be
displayed. If a file has not been selected, or does not exist, the appro-
priate error message will be displayed.
2. To update a record:
A. Type all or part of any field(s), including one COMMENTS field. For the
quickest location of information, enter the information to search for in
the COMPANY and/or ID CODE fields.
B. Press <F1> to fetch the first record with that set of field search
values. If such a record exists, it will be displayed on the screen.
If it does not exist, the data entry screen will remain blank and the
appropriate message will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.
NOTE: To fetch the first record stored, press <F1> without
entering anything in any of the fields listed above.
C. Press <F6> to proceed to the next like record or <F5> to go back to the
previous like record.
D. Make any changes to the currently displayed record using the following
keys to aid the update process:
<DEL> - Delete current field entry.
<END> - Move cursor to bottom of screen: COMMENTS field.
<HOME> - Move cursor to top of screen: COMPANY field.
<TAB> - Move cursor to next field.
<BACKTAB> - Move cursor back one field.
<RETURN> - Move cursor to next field.
< -> > - Move cursor to next field.
< <- > - Move cursor back one field.
<BACKSPACE> - Delete character that cursor is positioned under.
NOTE: This change is not displayed on the screen
until <F2> is pressed.
CARDFILE uses Quick Keys to position the cursor at a specific field with a
minimum number of keystrokes. These Quick Keys are:
<CTRL>+<F1> - COMPANY
<CTRL>+<F2> - ID CODE
<CTRL>+<F3> - ADDRESS1
<CTRL>+<F4> - ADDRESS2
<CTRL>+<F5> - CITY
<CTRL>+<F6> - STATE
<CTRL>+<F7> - ZIP CODE
<CTRL>+<F8> - PHONE Area code
<CTRL>+<F9> - CONTACT
<CTRL>+<F10> - COMMENTS line # 1
E. Press the appropriate function key when ready. These are:
<F1> - Fetch first record with entered field search values.
<F2> - Refresh current screen entry.
<F3> - Quit and return to Main Menu. Do not save any changes to the
current screen entry since last save.
<F4> - Clear screen. Do not save any changes to the current screen
entry since last save.
<F5> - Fetch previous record record. Do not save any changes to the
current screen entry since last save.
<F6> - Fetch next record with entered field search values. Do NOT save
any changes to the current screen entry since last save.
<F7> - Save current screen entry and clear screen, and reset fetch
values.
<F8> - Save current screen entry and redisplay as saved.
<F10> - Delete current screen entry.
NOTE: Before a record is deleted, a prompt will be dis-
played to verify the delete record request. Press
<Y> to delete the record or <N> cancel the delete
record command.
<ALT>+<F9> - Print mailing label for record currently displayed.
