- Welocome to LC - Show Last Caller
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
What is LC ?
LC is a little program that displays the information found in
LASTCALL.BBS for Remote Access and INBOUND.HIS for FrontDoor.
Wich are the files wich are updtated everytime a User or another
mailer has connected to Your BBS. The RA file is rewritten every
day so only todays callers is kept in this file. And i Only Display
todays calls from FrontDoors history file.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
- Reason ?
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
As a Remote Access sysop i wanted to see who had called so far today.
There are two ways of doing this. Looking at the log, or log on to
the BBS and execute a menutype 51 "Show todays Callers". Both where to
slow for my purposes. I wanted a quick glance at todays caller nothing
more. For FrontDoor i could simply press Alt-I for the Inbound
history but i had to figure out myself wich where todays calls and
I didn't get a summary of how many there where.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
- Solution !
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The solution is simple. Just execute LC.EXE and you will get a list
of todays callers. Looking just like the list in RA. Nothing fancy
at all but everything i needed.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
- Legal stuff and disclaimer

... and after that let's get on with it.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
- How to use LC
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Note that LC will try to detect if you are running Under DesqView
and if it finds that you are doing so then all screenwrites will be
directed to the screenbuffer supplied by DesqView. So the window you
run it in can have Direct Screen Writes set to No. Also LC will slice
away time to other tasks in DV when it is waiting for keyboard input.
LC depends entirely on two Environment varibles called "RA" and "FD".
This you set by typing ...
C:\> SET RA=<The path to your bbs> ... at the DOS prompt.
Please note that there should not be any Spaces between the "RA" and
the "=" sign.
If you wish to check wether you already has this one set just type...
C:\> SET
... at the DOS prompt and all the variables in your environment
will be listed.
The same goes for FrontDoors environment variable called "FD".
After this is done just type LC and you will be able to see todays
callers.
But if you do not wish to set the variable RA then simply execute LC
from the Home Directory of Remote Access.
LC is smart enough to know if you have set the option
"Exclude sysop from list" in RACONFIG. If set to YES Your
name will not be shown in the List generated by LC.
This of course is also depending on the Name you Entered in RACONFIG
as the name of the sysop.
Another thing that LC will get from the RA Config file is the name
of your system. So if that oe isn't correctly displayed by LC please
check the setup. And Your Nodenumber as Well. LC assumes that the
first NodeNumber in your RA setup is your primary and that is the
one that is displayed.
After all this you simply type LC and press the Enter key at the
DOS prompt. A list of todays callers will hopefully be seen.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
- LC Used by your users.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Just as well as i am peeking at todays callers now and then so does
my users. And a question that keep popping up is why the BBS has been
busy and no user has been ON-Line. The answer to this is mostly file-
requests made by other SysOps. And having to explain this over and
over i got tired. So i simply added Fossil support for LC so that
my users could se not only todays callers but todays inbound mailcalls.
This way they can see allmost all activity on my board. The outbound
mail calls are not included, but since they mostly are done nightly
i felt no need for them.
To Set up LC for remote usage simply add the command line FOSSIL.
LC FOSSIL
Will tell LC to start looking for the DORINFOX.DEF file in the current
directory and from that file get hold of if the user has ANSI set or
not. Also it checks if the Baudrate is valid or if it is in local mode.
Simply install LC as a menutype 7 in your Remote Access and replace it
with you current menutype 51.
