SETUP
As previously stated, Masterix is designed to be used with
the WWIV BBS 4.xx system. I personally am a registered
WWIVnet sysop (using version 4.12) and cannot praise Wayne
Bell enough for his wonderful program. Because WWIV handles
all IO redirection, modem drivers are not needed for
Masterix. I have not tried to run Masterix under any other
BBS program, and cannot verify whether it will or not run. I
do know that programs such as DOORWAY will redirect Masterix
to the COM port, if you are not running under WWIV. Contact
Data World BBS (authors of DOORWAY @ 615/966-3574) for more
information on their product.
Anyways, if you are a WWIV 4.xx sysop, you are in luck.
That's what this program is designed for. First of all, as
you should have read in the READ.ME file for Masterix, copy
all of the files in the original MASTERIX.ZIP into your
BBS\CHAINS directory (whatever that may be), and run
SETUP.BAT.
SETUP.BAT will create a directory off of your CHAINS dir
called MASTERIX and will copy the necessary files there. One
file, MASTERIX.BAT will be left in your CHAINS dir. This
will be the file you will call from the BBS.
PLEASE DO NOT TRY AND CIRCUMVENT THIS SETUP. It is necessary
for Masterix to be able to find the necessary files.
MASTERIX.BAT basically changes directories and executes
MASTERIX.EXE. Simply calling MASTERIX.EXE from the BBS will
NOT work (unless you want to leave all of the files in your
CHAINS dir, which gets messy...).
After you have run SETUP, go into //CHAINEDIT and set your
options to the following:
Description: Masterix
Filename: BBS\CHAINS\MASTERIX.BAT p[COM] *
ANSI: Required
Dos Interrupt: IS Used
300 Baud: Not allowed **
Shrink: No
Pause: Off ***
* Use whatever the PATH to your CHAINS dir is.
Be sure to specify a COM port (see below).
** This is really up to you, but I'll be honest:
Masterix runs slow even at 2400 baud!
*** If you have a version of WWIV which allows you to
turn [PAUSE] off for Chains, set them to Off.
COMMAND LINE PARAMETERS
REGISTER
Once you have received your Official Masterix
Registration Code from Master Software, run Masterix
from the DOS prompt using the 'REGISTER' parameter:
C:\> MASTERIX REGISTER
You will then be asked to input your registration name
and code. Be sure to enter them EXACTLY as given to you
by Master Software. Capitalization, spaces,
punctuation, etc. are all sensitive!
COM PORT MONITORING
In order for Masterix to monitor your COM port and make
sure that the user online has not hung up, you must
tell it which COM port to watch. Simply call Masterix
from CHAINEDIT with the following convention:
MASTERIX p[COM]
[COM] is the COM port which your modem is running on (1
through 4). For example, if your modem is installed in
COM port 1, you'd call Masterix with:
MASTERIX p1
And likewise for ports 2-4:
MASTERIX p2
MASTERIX p3
MASTERIX p4
IF YOU DO NOT SPECIFY A COM PORT, MASTERIX WILL DEFAULT
TO LOCAL MODE, AND WILL NOT MONITOR YOUR COM PORT FOR
HANGUPS. YOUR SYSTEM IS IN DANGER OF BEING HARD-FROZEN.
IN A NUTSHELL
1. Copy all files to your BBS\CHAINS directory.
2. Run SETUP.BAT
3. In //CHAINEDIT, configure your system to call
CHAINS\MASTERIX.BAT p[COM].
4. Have fun!
