S T A R M E N U 3.1
INSTRUCTIONS
I. INTRODUCTION
Welcome to STARMENU! This is a menu program that makes it very easy
to run your favorite software. Just as a restaurant menu lets you
select what you want from a list of choices, so STARMENU lets you
select the program you want to run from a similar list. It's a lot
easier to run a program from a menu that having to type some commands
from DOS.
These instructions explain how to use STARMENU. In addition, help is
available by pressing F1.
II. HOW TO RUN A PROGRAM
The STARMENU main screen displays software categories across the top.
These are categories that you create. To select a category, use the
left/right arrow keys, or click on the category you want with a mouse.
When you have chosen a category, a menu appears below the category
listing the programs assigned to it. You may then select and run the
program you want. There are 3 ways you can select a program:
1. Highlight it using the up/down arrow keys, then press Enter;
2. Press the highlighted first letter of the program name;
3. Click on the program with a mouse.
That's all there is to it! Your selected program will run. And when
you exit the program, you will return to STARMENU, reday to run
another.
III. ABOUT THE [*] MENU
The last category shown at the top of the screen is '[*]'. The is the
STARMENU special features menu. Each of the selections on this menu
are explained below:
A. Accessories
This is a clock, calendar and notepad. When you select this, you
will see a screen that displays a clock on the upper right, a cal-
endar on the lower right, and a notepad on the left.
The clock displays the current system time. The calendar is a
perpetual calendar. By using the arrow keys you can change the
date that is currently highlighted. And by using the Page Up/
Page Down keys you can change the current month.
The notepad lets you attach notes to a specific date. To do this,
make sure the date you want is highlighted, then press F2 or click
on the F2 key shown at the top of the screen.
You may now enter a note of up to 20 lines. When finished, press
or click on F10. The note will display whenever the date is high-
lighted.
You may delete a note by pressing or clicking on Delete when it is
displayed.
B. Calculator
This is a simple 4 function calculator. You can add, subtract,
multiply and divide with it. In addition to the standard calcula-
tor display, a simulated tape is shown to the right. This displays
the last few calculations you have entered.
C. Menu Settings
This selection runs the Settings program. This program lets you
add, change or delete the programs STARMENU lets you run. It
also lets you change colors, set security and a variety of other
importatnt characteristics.
D. Phone Numbers
This maintains a list of names, addresses and phone numbers.
When you first select this, the first record will be displayed.
Records are displayed in alphabetic order.
Use the Page Up/Page Down keys to move through the records. You
can change the information about the the record that is currently
displayed by pressing or clicking on F2. Insert adds a new record
and Delete erases the currently displayed record.
To find a specific record, press F, then enter the name you are
looking for. The first record that most closely matches what you
typed will be displayed.
E. Quit to Logo
When you select this the logo screen will display. When the logo
screen is dispalyed, you press any key to return to the menu
screen. If security has been activated, you will be required to
enter a password and possibly your name before you can get to
the menu screen. Depending upon how security has been set up,
the logo may display each time you return from a program you have
run.
F. Shell to DOS
This selection lets you go to the DOS prompt while keeping STAR-
MENU in memory. This is handy if you need to go to DOS and re-
turn very quickly. If security has been activated, you may have
to enter a password in order to access this selection.
When you are finished, typing EXIT will return you to STARMENU.
G. Exit STARMENU
This lets you exit STARMENU, removing it completely from memory.
A password may be required if security has been activated.
When you exit STARMENU in this way, you must type STARMENU at the
DOS prompt in order to rerun the program. When you do this, make
sure you are in the STARMENU subdirectory, or that your DOS path
command includes the STARMENU path in it.
H. Instructions
This lets you review on-line instructions on how to use STARMENU.

the help desk will be shown here.
