  17.         FaxLauncher Release Notes
  18.         ------------------------------
  19.         The current release is version 3.00.10.01A Final Release.
  20.  
  21.         The 10/21/96 build binaries are the same as 10/01/96 except for 
  22.         the FSDELIV.EXE (Windows 95 Version) and FSDELV16.EXE.
  23.  
  24.         The 10/21/96 build includes a fix to remove fax jobs from
  25.         the queue prior to sending.  If problems occur during sending
  26.         the fax that was being sent will not be in the queue the next
  27.         time a fax is sent.  However you can still print to the queue 
  28.         while an initial fax is being sent.  This means that faxes that 
  29.         were queued while another fax was being sent to FaxSav will 
  30.         remain in the queue.  If you are unsure you can clear the queue 
  31.         by deleting the FAXSAV.QUE file in the C:\FAXSAV\FAXDATA directory
  32.  
  33.         The 10/01/96 build includes improvements to the faxSav
  34.         Internet Registration application as well as updated RSA logo
  35.         information.
  36.  
  37.         This version supports DBCS for international versions
  38.         of Windows and Windows 95. (Japanese, Korean, ... versions
  39.         of Windows.
  40.  
  41.         Various fixes to TCP/IP code fixing problems that occur
  42.         with the Netcom and Trumpet winsocks.
  43.  
  44.         Improved error handling for low-memory conditions.  If the
  45.         delivery executable fails to start during printing the
  46.         new faxjob is not left in the queue.
  47.  
  48.         This version fixes the problem with Landscape Mode Faxes
  49.         (particulary from Microsoft Excel) that do not fax correctly.

  52. 0.      Important Considerations for Successful Use of FaxLauncher
  53. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  54.         1. WINSOCK - The FaxLauncher software requires a WINSOCK
  55.            compliant TCP/IP Internet connection.
  56.  
  57.         2. PROXY Servers/FIREWALLS - If your PC is on a LAN with a proxy
  58.            server or firewall then either
  59.  
  60.            a) your server/software must be configured to allow outbound
  61.            SMTP communication for the FaxLauncher use.  In order to use
  62.            the FaxLauncher registration utility to create a new registration
  63.            or update account information, the server/software must be
  64.            configured to allow two-way FTP communication.
  65.  
  66.            b) run the FaxLauncher configuration utility to point FaxLauncher
  67.            to your Internet email gateway. Under this configuration,
  68.            registration and updating must be done offline via phone or fax.
  69.            See below for more information.

  71.            If you are unsure about these requirements ask your system
  72.            administrator.

  74.         4. Windows NT - Currently the FaxLauncher print driver does
  75.            not run in Windows NT.  We do have plans to support Windows
  76.            NT in the future.

  79. 1.      Technical support
  80. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  81.     This is a beta release of FaxLauncher so you may experience
  82.     occasional difficulties when setting up or using FaxLauncher.
  83.     If you have problems or questions, please email them to
  84.     support@faxsav.com.  Please be as specific as possible about
  85.     the error situation and your Internet connection.  For
  86.     instance, let us know the exact error message, the software
  87.     package you were using at the time, and the type of Internet
  88.     connection you have (on-line service through Compuserve, e.g.,
  89.     direct service through Netcom, e.g., or a corporate
  90.     LAN connection).

  92.     If you have to speak to a person, please call FaxSav Customer
  93.     Service.
  94.  
  95.         from inside the US call between 9:00AM - 5:00PM EDT:

  106. 2.      Instructions for sending a fax with FaxLauncher
  107. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  108.     Remember that you must be registered with FaxSav in order to
  109.     use this software. If you have not already registered, please
  110.     run the registration utility to become a full or trial user.
  111.  
  112.     To send a fax:
  113.  
  114.     1. You must have your Internet connection up before you can
  115.        fax.
  116.     2. With the document you want to fax open, choose File, Print.
  117.     3. Choose Printer or Printer Setup or Setup (whichever button
  118.        you see).
  119.  
  120.        If you do not see any such choice, then click Cancel and
  121.        choose File, Printer Setup. From the list of printers,
  122.        choose and double-click on FaxLauncher on FAX:. Choose
  123.        File, Print.  Continue with step 7.
  124.  
  125.     4. From the list of printers, choose and double-click on
  126.        FaxLauncher on FAX:.
  127.     5. When your choice has been activated, click Close or OK to
  128.        accept it.
  129.     6. Click OK to initiate the printing.
  130.     7. In the Fax: field, enter the fax number you would like to
  131.        send to including country code and area/city code, even if
  132.        you are faxing locally.
  133.  
  134.        For faxes to the US, Canada, or the Caribbean, you should
  135.        use an 11-digit number in the form:
  136.  
  137.        1 + (3-digit area code) + (7-digit local number)
  138.  
  139.         For example, the complete fax number for a fax being sent
  140.        to New York, USA could be:
  141.  
  142.                 12125551234    -or-      1-212-555-1234
  143.  
  144.            Dashes (-) are accepted in the fax number field, but no
  145.            other special characters are allowed.
  146.  
  147.            Faxes to all other locations should be of the form:
  148.  
  149.            (country code) + (city code) + (local number)
  150.  
  151.            International access codes (such as 011 in the United
  152.            States) should not be used.  For example, the complete
  153.            fax number for a fax being sent to Tokyo, Japan could be:
  154.  
  155.         81312345678    -or-       81-3-1234-5678
  156.  
  157.            You may enter multiple fax numbers in this field. Separate
  158.            them with commas.
  159.  
  160.         8. In the other fields on the form, you may choose to enter
  161.            any of the following:
  162.  
  163.            Receive Delivery Notice
  164.            To receive delivery notices via email please check this box.
  165.  
  166.            Address Book
  167.            Click this button to add a fax number to your addressbook,
  168.            make a new broadcast list, add to a current one, or to use a
  169.            saved list or fax number.
  170.  
  171.            Subject
  172.            Enter a brief description of the fax you are sending. This
  173.            will be used in the delivery notice that you will receive
  174.            by email and the cover page if you choose to use one.

  176.            Use Cover Page
  177.            To use a cover page please check this box.

  180.            Input the name of the person or organization to whom
  181.            you are faxing.
  182.

  184.            Input your name.

  187.            Input the name of your organization (if any).

  189.            Reply Fax
  190.            Enter the number where you would like the recipient to
  191.            fax a reply.

  193.            Some of these fields may be saved as defaults or
  194.            preferences by using the FaxLauncher Configuration Utility.

  196.     10.Click OK to send the fax.
  197.  
  198.     11.Wait until the message "Fax has been sent to faxSAV!"
  199.        appears before doing anything else in your document.
  200.  
  201.         By default, FaxLauncher is set to fax in normal mode. To fax
  202.         in fine mode, go into Printer Setup, Options and change the
  203.         setting there. Fine mode prices may be higher than normal mode.

  208.     To fax again, you choose File, Print and resume with step 7
  209.     above.    To be able to print to your paper printer, you need
  210.     to change your printer setup as in steps 1 to 6, except you
  211.     should choose the name of your paper printer instead
  212.     of FaxLauncher.
  213.  
  214. 3.      Gatewayed Delivery
  215. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  216.         The default configuration for FaxLauncher attempts to deliver
  217.         the SMTP Fax message directly to one of our service gateway
  218.         hosts.  This is intended to avoid lengthy mail gateways hops
  219.         and intermediate mail gateways imposing limits on message
  220.         length.
  221.  
  222.         In some corporate LAN configurations it is not desirable to
  223.         allow direct SMTP traffic outside the firewall.  You can
  224.         configure FaxLauncher to forward the fax message to an internal
  225.         mail gateway using the FaxLauncher Configuration Utility that was
  226.         installed on your PC.
  227.  
  228.         You may need to consult your Internet administrator for this
  229.         information:
  230.  
  231.         Domain Name Server
  232.         You may enter the name of your domain server. If you do not
  233.         provide one here, FaxLauncher will find a domain name server
  234.         if possible.
  235.  
  236.         Primary Mail Gateway
  237.         You may enter the IP address of your primary email gateway here.
  238.  
  239.         Secondary Mail Gateway
  240.         You may enter the IP address of your secondary email gateway
  241.         here, if you have one.
  242.  
  243.         Alternative SMTP Port
  244.         If you are specifying an alternative SMTP route through your email
  245.         gateway, other than the commonly used ports, 23 or 25, then you
  246.         must specify the port used here.
  247.  
  248. 4.      Troubleshooting notes
  249. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  250.     A. If you are experiencing time out errors while connecting to
  251.            FaxSav fax service, increase the time out threshold from the
  252.            default value of 20 seconds. Edit the FAXSAV.INI file found
  253.            in your Windows directory.  Add or change the following
  254.            line:
  255.  
  256.             TimeOutValue=30
  257.  
  258.     B. The current version of FaxLauncher including bug fixes
  259.        is available at:

  262.         C. If you use a 16-Bit Winsock Implementation on Windows 95
  263.            and have not configured a 32-Bit Winsock, change the
  264.            UseDeliver entry in the DELIVERY section of faxSAV.INI
  265.            file to the value 16.  This will cause FaxLauncher
  266.            to use the 16-Bit delivery system instead of the 32-Bit
  267.            delivery system.

  281.         D. If you are receiving password mismatch failure notices when
  282.            you send faxes.  The FAXSAV.INI file contains a invalid
  283.            version of your password.  If you know the correct password
  284.            you can solve this problem using the FaxLauncher
  285.            Configuration utility.
