*********************************************************************** FaxLauncher for Windows FaxSav Incorporated Copyright 1996 FaxLauncher Version 3.00.10.01 Last modified: 10/21/96 *********************************************************************** The current version of FaxLauncher which runs on Windows 3.1, 3.11 and 95, including any bug fixes is available at: ftp://ftp.faxsav.com/pub/faxsav.exe The current version of FaxLauncher which is optimized to run on Windows 95 only is available at: ftp://ftp.faxsav.com/pub/faxsav95.exe FaxLauncher Release Notes ------------------------------ The current release is version 3.00.10.01A Final Release. The 10/21/96 build binaries are the same as 10/01/96 except for the FSDELIV.EXE (Windows 95 Version) and FSDELV16.EXE. The 10/21/96 build includes a fix to remove fax jobs from the queue prior to sending. If problems occur during sending the fax that was being sent will not be in the queue the next time a fax is sent. However you can still print to the queue while an initial fax is being sent. This means that faxes that were queued while another fax was being sent to FaxSav will remain in the queue. If you are unsure you can clear the queue by deleting the FAXSAV.QUE file in the C:\FAXSAV\FAXDATA directory The 10/01/96 build includes improvements to the faxSav Internet Registration application as well as updated RSA logo information. This version supports DBCS for international versions of Windows and Windows 95. (Japanese, Korean, ... versions of Windows. Various fixes to TCP/IP code fixing problems that occur with the Netcom and Trumpet winsocks. Improved error handling for low-memory conditions. If the delivery executable fails to start during printing the new faxjob is not left in the queue. This version fixes the problem with Landscape Mode Faxes (particulary from Microsoft Excel) that do not fax correctly. 0. Important Considerations for Successful Use of FaxLauncher ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. WINSOCK - The FaxLauncher software requires a WINSOCK compliant TCP/IP Internet connection. 2. PROXY Servers/FIREWALLS - If your PC is on a LAN with a proxy server or firewall then either a) your server/software must be configured to allow outbound SMTP communication for the FaxLauncher use. In order to use the FaxLauncher registration utility to create a new registration or update account information, the server/software must be configured to allow two-way FTP communication. b) run the FaxLauncher configuration utility to point FaxLauncher to your Internet email gateway. Under this configuration, registration and updating must be done offline via phone or fax. See below for more information. If you are unsure about these requirements ask your system administrator. 4. Windows NT - Currently the FaxLauncher print driver does not run in Windows NT. We do have plans to support Windows NT in the future. 1. Technical support ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a beta release of FaxLauncher so you may experience occasional difficulties when setting up or using FaxLauncher. If you have problems or questions, please email them to support@faxsav.com. Please be as specific as possible about the error situation and your Internet connection. For instance, let us know the exact error message, the software package you were using at the time, and the type of Internet connection you have (on-line service through Compuserve, e.g., direct service through Netcom, e.g., or a corporate LAN connection). To be able to print to your paper printer, you need to change your printer setup as in steps 1 to 6, except you should choose the name of your paper printer instead of FaxLauncher. 3. Gatewayed Delivery ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The default configuration for FaxLauncher attempts to deliver the SMTP Fax message directly to one of our service gateway hosts. This is intended to avoid lengthy mail gateways hops and intermediate mail gateways imposing limits on message length. In some corporate LAN configurations it is not desirable to allow direct SMTP traffic outside the firewall. You can configure FaxLauncher to forward the fax message to an internal mail gateway using the FaxLauncher Configuration Utility that was installed on your PC. You may need to consult your Internet administrator for this information: Domain Name Server You may enter the name of your domain server. If you do not provide one here, FaxLauncher will find a domain name server if possible. Primary Mail Gateway You may enter the IP address of your primary email gateway here. Secondary Mail Gateway You may enter the IP address of your secondary email gateway here, if you have one. Alternative SMTP Port If you are specifying an alternative SMTP route through your email gateway, other than the commonly used ports, 23 or 25, then you must specify the port used here. 4. Troubleshooting notes ----------------------------------------------------------------------- A. If you are experiencing time out errors while connecting to FaxSav fax service, increase the time out threshold from the default value of 20 seconds. Edit the FAXSAV.INI file found in your Windows directory. Add or change the following line: TimeOutValue=30 B. The current version of FaxLauncher including bug fixes is available at: ftp://ftp.faxsav.com/pub/faxsav.exe C. If you use a 16-Bit Winsock Implementation on Windows 95 and have not configured a 32-Bit Winsock, change the UseDeliver entry in the DELIVERY section of faxSAV.INI file to the value 16. This will cause FaxLauncher to use the 16-Bit delivery system instead of the 32-Bit delivery system. ;before [DELIVERY] Delivery32=c:\faxsav\FSDELIV.EXE Delivery16=c:\faxsav\FSDELV16.EXE UseDeliver=1 ;after [DELIVERY] Delivery32=c:\faxsav\FSDELIV.EXE Delivery16=c:\faxsav\FSDELV16.EXE UseDeliver=16 D. If you are receiving password mismatch failure notices when you send faxes. The FAXSAV.INI file contains a invalid version of your password. If you know the correct password you can solve this problem using the FaxLauncher Configuration utility. 5.
