Run MP by typing: MP <─┘. It'll then display this window asking
for the name of the file you want to print.
╔══╣ Print which file? <F2> = Directory <Esc> = Quit ╠═══╗

Type in the name of the file you want to print (including the
drive and directory if your file is not on the current "path");
then press <─┘. Press <F2> to choose a file from a menu; just
follow MP's prompts. TO QUIT (and print nothing), press <Esc>.
Once you select a file to print, MP displays the menu below. "Check"
the options you want. Then select <P> = Print or <Esc> = Quit.
Notice that some options in the menu below are already "checked"
(already marked with a "√"). These are the "defaults," the options
MP uses if you don't choose other options. By default, MP:
* prints in "booklet" form (landscape, 2-sided, 4 pages per sheet)
* assumes you're using a LaserJet
* assumes your printer is hooked up to printer port "LPT1"

There are actually 6 separate menus in the main menu. In each one,
check off (√) the option(s) you want. In some menus you'll "pick 1"
option. In other menus you may "√ all that apply." And some options
let you choose different levels (eg., a Top margin of 0 - 9 rows). In
these, you keep "selecting" the option to choose the level you want.
To "select" options using the keyboard, press Up/Down cursor keys to
highlight options, press <Space> to select one, press PgDn (or
<Enter>) to switch menus. To select options using a mouse, move
the mouse cursor to an option and "double click" the LEFT button.
Important Tips
▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄
Experiment with small text files before you print large ones. This
will help you learn how MP works and which options work best on your
printer -- without wasting reams of paper.
Printing in Portrait Mode: All Printers
▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄
In portrait mode, MP prints text using the currently active settings
of your printer -- including fonts.
For most text, we urge you to use fixed spaced fonts. Proportion-
ally spaced fonts can make a mess of manuals like this one -- with
lines, boxes and columns which must line up vertically.
To turn on the printer attributes you need, you can set up your prin-
ter ahead of time, or use MP's "Setup" feature to enter printer code(s).
On LaserJets, MP "tightens up" line spacing to fit 66 lines on a page.
Printing in Landscape Mode
▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄
LaserJets
─────────
We urge you NOT to use the LaserJet's REAR paper tray. Why?
Because MP prints side #2 assuming the paper is in a particular
order and facing a specific way. If you use the REAR paper tray,
the paper comes out of the printer in the wrong order.
Epson or Toshiba Printers
─────────────────────────
Use a new, dark ribbon, especially if you're printing in landscape
mode. Why? To print 2 pages on text on each sheet of paper in
landscape mode, MP's fonts are necessarily small. With old ribbons,
these small characters can be faint and hard to read.
ALWAYS ensure your printer begins printing on the FIRST 1-3 lines
of the paper -- especially if you print sideways! MP MUST begin
printing at the top of each page -- to ensure it doesn't print the
last few characters of a page on the next page, then skip a page!
If you print using any of MP's sideways (landscape) options, you
might want to turn on your printer's UNIDIRECTIONAL printing mode.
This will slow down printing a little, but it helps ensure lines,
boxes and columns line up. Again, experiment to see what you prefer.
To print sideways on Epson or Toshiba printers, MP uses graphics
mode. This is slower than printing in text mode. You may want to:
* Print in portrait (text) mode much of the time. You'll still
be able to print on both sides of the paper.
* Choose 1-sided printing (not 2-sided or "booklet-style").
1-sided printing lets you ignore your printer until it's done.
You can go to lunch and let your printer work while you're out.
* Print titles, if any, at the TOP not the bottom of the page.
If you print titles at the BOTTOM rather than the top of the
page, MP switches to graphics mode early, slowing down printing.
