SHIPS.EXE is a program that is designed to be run on a Novell
NetWare LAN that has at least one fileserver active. Players
must be logged into the network. The game can also be run
across a multi-server network or an internetwork. NetWare
versions supported are 2.xx and 3.xx.
SHIPIPX.EXE is a program that is designed to be run over a
single cable segment where a fileserver is NOT active. This
segment MUST be a LAN cable connected to network interface
cards (NIC), not a serial or parallel cable. A Novell IPX/SPX
driver or drivers must be loaded before running the game.
Do not run the NetWare Shell (NETX.EXE) or NetWare Requester
(VLM.EXE). Below are examples:
If you have an IPX.COM file, type
IPX <Enter>
SHIPSIPX <Enter>
To unload IPX.COM from memory, your computer must be rebooted.
=============================================================
It gets a little more complicated if you have ODI drivers.
You'll need to locate 3 files - LSL.COM, IPXODI.COM, and a
file referred to as an MLID driver. This is a driver file
for your NIC. They have many different names, usually
corresponding to the name of the associated NIC. NE2000.COM
and 3C509.COM are common. When you locate all the above
files, type the following in order:
LSL <Enter>
the name of the MLID driver <Enter>
IPXODI <Enter>
SHIPSIPX <Enter>
Note that ODI drivers can be unloaded from memory by executing
them in reverse order using the /U switch.
That's it! Have fun!
