^B ^C How to enter moves (Page 7-8)
^B With a mouse...
Click the piece you wish to move, hold down the mouse key,
move the mouse cursor to destination square and let go.
Alternative: Click FROM square and then TO square.
^B ...or from the keyboard
Use cursor keys to move board cursor to the FROM square,
hit ENTER. Move the board cursor to the destination square
and hit ENTER again.
^F ^I Any key = next help screen - ESC = back to main board

^B Take back moves (Page 8)
- Click "Take back" in the "Moves=F2" menu
- Press Ctrl-Cursor Left
- Click the arrow left symbol to the right of the main board
You can take back a number of moves and replay them (using
Ctrl-Cursor Right). Only when you enter a move Fritz will
begin to calculate a reply.
^B Move! (change sides) (Page 11)
- Press Space = Fritz will begin to calculate the next move
- Press Space again = Fritz will interrupt and play the best
move found so far
- Press Ctrl-F = "Flip board" if you want to play on for black

Click "Save game" in the "Database=F5" menu (or press Ctrl-S)
Enter the names of both players, the tournament (or source),
the year and the result:
"1" = White won
"0" = Black won
"d" = draw
"l" = line or variation (choose evaluation symbol)
The game you saved is added to the end of the database
Before you enter games from books or magazines switch off "Autoplay"
(in "Moves=F2") to prevent Fritz from computing countermoves

Lists the openings classification (press Alt-H for HELP).
Press Ctrl-C to classify the current game and get a list
of other games with the same opening.

for more moves. Shift-F4 reverses the direction.

Move the mouse cursor to any move and click with the
left mouse key. The position is displayed.
Press F2 for large diagrams.
You can also move the cursor with the cursor keys
and press F1 or F2.
A double-click or Enter will transfer the position
to the main board.
Esc or click with the right mouse = return to original position
on the main board.

^B ^C Variations (Page 33-34)
When a variation window appears to the right of the main
chessboard you can choose an alternate continuation with
the mouse, Cursor Up/Down or Space/Backspace.
Press Ctrl-Cursor Right to play through the variation.
Press Ctrl-Cursor Down or 'R' to return to the main game
(or M to return to the game and play the next move)
Press Esc or click with the right mouse key to get rid
of the variation window without action.

^B ^C ^U Main openings (Page 29)
^B Choose an opening
Use the cursor keys or a mouse click to move the dark band
onto an opening of your choice. Press Enter or double-click
to see the contents (subvariations or games).
You can move about the openings list with the cursor keys,
Page Up/Down, Ctrl-Home/End, etc. (as in the games list).
^B Special function: F4 Look
Many openings, e.g. Sicilian, have many subvariations, and these
may have more subvariations. Press F4 or click "Look" to get an
overview of the opening.
The function "Overview openings" (Ctrl-O) in the main screen
gives you an overview of all openings.

In this overview openings of the same level are displayed in
the same colour. Games are not displayed.
On the right the number of games in each variation is given.
Move the dark band to a variation and hit Enter (or double-click).
The contents are displayed.

You can move about the list with the cursor keys,
Page Up/Down, Ctrl-Home/End, etc. (as in the games list).

^B ^C ^U The "contents" of an opening (Page 29)
A main opening (e.g. Sicilian) may contain games and
further subvariations.
The games you see belong to to the next-higher key (shown above
the list screen) but do not fit any of the subkeys in the list.
Move the dark band onto a game and hit Enter to load it.
Or move it onto a subvariation and hit Enter to see the contents.

^B With the mouse:
Click a piece on the right and deposit one or more of
that piece on the board.
Left mouse key = white pieces
Right mouse key = black pieces
Both mouse keys = delete piece
^B From the keyboard:
Move the board cursor with the cursor keys and deposit pieces
using K, Q, R, B, N, P (or 1 - 6, or F1 - F6).
Use TAB to change colours.
Space deletes pieces.
^B Delete = deletes the entire board,
^B Esc cancels position entry without modifying the main board.

^B ^C ^U Changing the screen colours (Page 38)
Experiment with the colours.
For each graphic element you can choose one of 16 different
colours. So there are 268,435,456 different combinations.
You may not be able to try them all, but the following
is recommended (in EGA and VGA): Click the "+" button
behind "White squares" and "Black squares" eight times each
for an attractive grey-shaded board.
On monochrome screens you can only invert the screen, board
and pieces - useful for laptops with inverted LCD displays.
If you want to return to the default values simply delete the
file FRITZ.PAR, which contains all the colour settings.
