  1. MaasInfo.Files = annotated directory of MaasInfo.* files, version of
  2. 1992.Feb.27 -- Note that most of these files are published as "trivial
  3. shareware". If they are worth more than a dollar to you, please do some
  4. nice favor of comparable value in return, such as supplying answers to
  5. SQWAs (see below). See MaasInfo.TopIndex for details of "trivial
  6. shareware" policy.

  9. %% Files directly relating to InterNet and the connected networks

  11. MaasInfo.TopIndex is the "Index of Indexes", an InterNet-online file
  12. pointing at all the major indexes that are posted on InterNet or BitNet.
  13. These indexes then point at all the known interest groups, archive sites,
  14. special services such as library catalogs file-finding and FTP-via-email,
  15. and some major tutorial documentation that are located on InterNet BitNet
  16. or UseNet. MaasInfo.TopIndex also points at the other attempts at
  17. meta-indexes, namely the InterNet Resource Guide, the "Catalog of
  18. Catalogs" (TopNode), and the AARNET Resource guilde. MaasInfo.TopIndex
  19. does NOT point directly at any hardcopy-only documents such as published
  20. books, even of those books are in fact indexes, but it points to some
  21. online bibliographies that in turn point to such hardcopy-only documents.

  24. MaasInfo.DocIndex is one of those indexes. It points at various important
  25. documents and tutorials that are helpful when trying to use the InterNet
  26. (including BitNet and UseNet). (The current version is dated 1992.Feb.27)

  28. MaasInfo.HowNet one of those documents, consisting of brief tutorials on
  29. using various network services that don't seem to be documented anywhere
  30. else readily accessible or don't warrant more than a paragraph each for
  31. just getting started. (The current version is dated 1992.Feb.27)

  33. MaasInfo.NNTP tells how to Telnet to NNTP servers and issue commands
  34. manually if you don't have regular UseNet newsgroup service and can't
  35. install it on your host. (The current version is dated 1992.Feb.22)

  37. MaasInfo.Archie tells how to get started using Archie to find files if
  38. you know their names and suspect they are available somewhere on the
  39. InterNet. There are several other Archie documents but this one may be
  40. best for just quickly getting started efficiently. (The current version

  42. tutorials and documents about how to use Archie.
