In this year Beethoven wrote a letter to Czerny, which reflects, more than anything else, his conceptions on music education: " I beg of you to have as much patience with Karl as possible, even if until now matters do not go as you and I should wish, otherwise he will accomplish even less...therefore treat him with as much kindness as possible, but with seriousness...once he plays with the right fingers, plays in time and reads the notes correctly, you can then direct his attention to his interpretation...never stop him because of small mistakes but point them out after he finishes the piece...I wish all the fingers be used at all times..."

During a wave of anti-Napoleonism, Beethoven wrote to Steiner : "We have, after due examination, and after hearing our council, decided that from now on all our works with German titles must have Hammerklavier instead of pianoforte..."
Indeed, Beethoven used the German term in the titles of his two piano sonatas, Op. 101 and 106.

As his hearing was deteriorating, Beethoven wrote to Nanette Streicher: "... now a great request to Streicher: please ask him to be kind as to prepare a pianoforte which must be especially adapted to my weak hearing. I would like the tone to be as strong as possible..."
