After a number of legal battles, Beethoven was finally granted the right to remove Karl from the "Queen of the Night", as he used to call the nine year old child's mother.
Of course, Beethoven was preoccupied with Karl most of his time. This had a very negative influence on his creativity. When Beethoven understood that he could not educate his nephew at home, he decided to send Karl to a boarding school (where he stayed for two years).
From this year onwards, Beethoven asked Czerny to teach his nephew music and piano playing.
During this year, Beethoven wrote to himself in his notebooks: "Fate, show your power! We are not our own masters: Whatever has been determined must be, and so let it be, then!"
"Live in your art alone! Limited as you are now because of your defective hearing, this is the only possible existence for you."
