On this day, the first performance of the revised opera "Fidelio" was given, with the Prometheus overture, as Beethoven did not have enough time to complete the new overture to the opera. Some believe that it was the overture to "Leonore", and others that it was "The Ruins of Athens", which was played before the opera. It was a great success and had to be repeated many times.
It is interesting to note that when Moscheles finished copying the complete score of the opera, he signed it with: "finished with God's help", but when he showed it to Beethoven the composer added: "O Man, help thyself!"
