Intro by Dave Moorman
These two articles, edited from
www.commodore.ca, tell the story of
the meteoric growth and excruciating
plummet of what should be remembered
as one of the greatest computer
manufacturers in hisory. But, because
of a long line of "Continually Bad
Management" after the departure of
Jack Tramiel, Commodore Business
Machines went the way of all companies
that have poor vision.
I understand that CBM had other
problems -- EPA problems. But the
inability to produce and market a
kick-IBM's-butt Amiga, and the
abundance of golden parachutes in
upper management left the business
with little business being in
business.
A lot of the responsibility (in my
humble opinion) belongs in the (well
tailored) lap of Irving Gould. This
man could see exactly two things: The
Bottom Line, and the CEO. The only
hope the new CEO had in order to
please Gould was to gut the company.
I once watched a gutted and
fileted catfish lay there on the
counter, gills still flexing. It
looked like CBM!
But this is all editorial. (Your
flaming replies will be published in
Forum!) Now read the text.
By the way, the Run It files are
graphic images of Jack Tramiel and
Chuck Peddle.
