VIDEO GAMES I version 0.5
For those of you who cannot find other player's for your multi-player
games, this is the game for you!
Remember the games Pong, Pacman and Space invaders. In the golden age
of video games, they dominated the arcades. In fact, the first Pong
machines ever made kept breaking down because the coin boxes kept
overflowing. In Japan, there was a shortage of 100 Yen coins because
everybody wanted to play space invaders. When pacman became popular, so
did pacmania. Pacman dolls, lunchboxes, and even a Pacman board game
became popular.
Yes, those were the good old days. However, there was still one minor
problem. If you enjoyed playing all three games, you may not enjoy
playing one game because you want to play the other two which you are
currently not playing.
At last comes a solution to this unbearable problem, and possibly the
start of a new trend in video games : VIDEO GAMES I. Here, you play
Pong, Pacman, and Space invaders at the same time using not only one
computer, but just one joystick!
CONTROLS :
PONG :
UP AND DOWN (while holding down fire) = Move left hand side bat.
PACMAN : Moving left and right while holding down the fire button steers
Pacman anticlockwise (left) and clockwise (right). To turn round, hold
the joystick left or right for some time (keeping the fire button
pressed of course) and you will turn round. If for some reason you
should stop, move the joystick left or right (don't forget fire!). This
may take some time to get used to.
SPACE INVADERS :
Move the joystick left and right to move the ship, and up or down to
fire a missile at the invaders. This time, do not press down fire.
It is possible to play two, or three of the above games using
combinations of these joystick movements.
During the game, you may find that one colour is dominating the
screen and that the other colours are too dark. By pressing certain
number keys on the numeric keypad (not the numbers above the letters),
you can change the brightness of individual colours. Pressing 7
increases the brightness of the red (PONG) 4 decreases the brightness. 8
and 5 do the same for the green (PACMAN). 9 and 6 do the same for the
blue (SPACE INVADERS). Pressing I inverts the colours. R restores the
colours to their original values. These colours can be changed either
during the game or the Pause mode. To pause the game, press P and to
resume, press O. Q quits the game, and W returns you to the desktop.
It is a good idea to practice at one game first to get the hang of it
by using the colour controls to make the other colours so dark that you
cannot see them.
For those of you who were on Mars during the 70s and early 80s, here
is how to play each game :
PONG : You and your opponent (in this case the computer) control a bat.
You have to hit the ball with it.
SPACE INVADERS : Shoot the aliens and do not get shot yourself. When
they reach the bottom, they kill you.
PACMAN : Eat all the cookes on the screen and avoid the ghosts. If you
eat the large cookies, you can eat the ghosts for a short while
afterwards.
The number of lives for each game is shown in it's colour. When the
lives reach zero, the sound effects for that particular game stop. You
do not score any points when this is the case. The score is not shown,
but calculated on how well you do when alive. The scores are displayed
when the game ends (when you press Q or when you have zero lives for all
3 games)

This program is Freeware. I know I could have done better, but I was
short of time. If you like this program or the idea of it, TELL ME!. I
write these games for fun, and it's no fun if I don't hear anything. If
I hear enough reactions, I might improve this game. Send me all your
comments and criticisms of this game so I know that the world is still
alive.) Even just one postcard from you could transform my day. The
source code of this game is not yet available to the public.
