  1. fED-UP
  2. ------
  3. fED is a full-screen editor for the QuickBBS ST  system.  It  provides  the
  4. user with a better message entry system to  aid  in  replying  and  writing
  5. messages.
  6.  
  7. Because of special screen codes used by fED, only comms programs with VT-52
  8. or Ansi-BBS can utilise its functions. ASCII users therefore cannot benefit
  9. from fED. The current version of fED supports Ansi-BBS, Atari VT-52 and the
  10. DEC VT-52 emulation modes.

  12. To use fED :-
  13. Just type normally on the keyboard and the words  will  appear,  with  word
  14. wrapping and cursor movements supported. Use the <DEL> and <BACKSPACE> keys
  15. to delete unwanted words. Ctrl-V toggles between insert and overwrite modes
  16. and Ctrl-Y deletes a line completely.

  19. In addition, pressing the <ESC> key while editing will bring up a menu line
  20. with the following options :-

  22. (E)dit the 'To:' and 'Subject:' fields of the message.
  23. (H)elp screen for users
  24. (L)ist current message to the screen
  25. (N)ext page. Brings user to the next editing page. (maximum 15 pages)
  26. (P)revious page. Bring user back up to the previous page.
  27. (Q)uit entry of message. Current message is not saved to disk.
  28. (R)ead ASCII file. Works for registered version in local mode only.
  29. (S)ave the message out to disk. Use this when you have finished writing.
  30. (T)oggle between private or public message. Disabled in echo mail areas.
  31. (W)rite on. Carry on with message entry. Any other unlisted key does this.

  34. fED also supports block commands. The block command menu is activated by
  35. pressing Ctrl-K. The following commands are available from this menu :-

  37. (B)egin   - Mark the beginning of a block
  38. (E)nd     - Mark the end of a block
  39. (R)emove  - Remove the block definition markers
  40. (C)opy    - Copy the block defined to the current cursor position
  41. (M)ove    - Move the block defined to the current cursor position
  42. (D)elete  - Delete the whole defined block

  45. There are some other Control-key commands which can be  activated  while
  46. editing the message. They are :-
  47.  
  48. Ctrl-R    to go to the previous page. Same as ESC-P
  49. Ctrl-C    to go to the next page. Same as ESC-N
  50.  
  51. Ctrl-E    to move cursor one line up
  52. Ctrl-X    to move cursor one line down
  53. Ctrl-S    to move cursor one character left
  54. Ctrl-D    to move cursor one character right
  55. Ctrl-A    to move cursor to word on the left
  56. Ctrl-F    to move cursor to word on the right
  57. Ctrl-P    to move cursor to the end of the line
  58. Ctrl-I    to go to the next tab stop. The <TAB> key can be used too.

  60. Ctrl-G    to delete character on the right. Same as <DEL>
  61. Ctrl-T    to delete a whole word to the right of the cursor

  63. Try out the editor and soon you will get the hang  of  it.  If  you  are
  64. replying a message and you choose to quote, the original message will be
  65. quoted at the start of your message. Edit the quoted lines to  suit your
  66. needs.

  68. *NOTE* The unregistered version of fED only supports up to  one  page  of
  69. message entry. If your Sysop is using an unregistered version, please ask
  70. him to register it.
