NEW! NEW! NEW!
--------------
Please note that I have moved to the US for the time being and my
email address and snail-mail addresses have been changed. See
FEDSYSOP.DOC for details. Also, registrations will be accepted now
at my US address or at the Germany registration site in US$ or DM.
For user support, email to my internet address: jf4y@andrew.cmu.edu
D'voice BBS has been handed over to a new Sysop so please don't try
to reach me there.
Version 1.25 has several small bug-fixes and it should be pretty
bug-free by now. If there are any other bugs, please report them to
me so I can fix them.
Thank you for the support once again. Look out for VOX-Mail, the
voice-mail system for the Falcon that I'm about to release!
CHANGES SINCE v1.10 to v1.23
----------------------------
- Block functions have been implemented. Users can now define a
block anywhere in the message and move, copy or delete the block.
It makes editing of quoted text much easier.
- Tearlines (including path lines) from echo mail messages are
not quoted in the replying messages to make the reply look
neater. Excessive null lines at the end of messages are
suppressed as well.
- User can now choose whether or not to quote message text when
replying a message.
- Support is included for the TAB and DEL key. Other keyboard
shortcuts are added in as well (read FED.HLP).
- fED can now be used in the netmail area. User can change the
destination node number before entering the message. The bug in
the netmail interfacing with QuickBBS ST has been eradicated and
now it works for both replies and new messages.
- Optimised routines provide faster response.
- fED can now accept up to a maximum of 15 pages (with all those
long long International Atari ST echomails) for registered users.
- WordStar cursor movement commands implemented. Some comms
programs do not support the cursor keys correctly, hence the need
for alternative command set. Some other non-WordStar commands are
added in as well.
Ctrl-E
^ Word left: Ctrl-A
| Word right: Ctrl-F
Ctrl-S <-- --> Ctrl-D Goto end of line: Ctrl-P
| Delete right char: Ctrl-G
V Display help file: Ctrl-Z
Ctrl-X
*Note: o Ctrl-S is now used for cursor movement; it is no longer
a keyboard shortcut to save the message.
o Help is still available from the extended menu by
pressing ESC-H
- More efficient code has been injected into several routines to
prevent unnecessary screen codes.
- fED v1.18 provides better support for block functions. When a line is
inserted or deleted, the block markers are adjusted accordingly. The
marker is deleted if the line it is on is deleted.
- Maximum line length has been reduced to 75 characters to maintain
compatibility with other mail readers, specifically Little Red Editor.
- Bug in the listing of messages fixed. The name of the user is no longer
printer out twice.
- The latest version of QuickBBS, i.e. v1.08, has finally solved the
problem of messages saved under fED not being written into the message
base. According to Theo Runia, this seems to be a problem with a loose
boolean variable in QuickBBS and has been fixed now. I have done
extensive testing on v1.08 and the message is saved all the time now.
- Previously, when quoting a message with a long line without a carriage
return, fED bombed out when it came to the 14th line. This bug has been
fixed.
- Minor bug in word wrapping when inserting from middle of the line fixed.
- A new 'Read ASCII' function has been implemented for registered
versions. A local user can now use 'ESC-R' to read in any ASCII text
file to be incorporated into the message.
- Point support for netmails was requested and this has been added in.
However, as QuickBBS v1.08 and below does not read in the node number
from the MSGINFO.FSE file written out by fED, it does not make sense to
allow the user to change the destination node for a Fido netmail. Up
till now, QuickBBS assumes that the full screen editor does not change
the node number. Hence, this feature has been temporarily disabled
until QuickBBS supports it.
- fED is now developed and compiled on Pure C. The resultant code is smaller
and the program runs faster as well.
- fED GOES COLOUR! After many requests from users/sysops all over, I have
finally implemented colour into fED. The colours are active if the user
is on an Ansi or VT-52 color mode. I am not sure if I selected the most
pleasing colours but I am open to comments.
- fED will now accept characters above the normal UK keyboard set. This is
to allow for German and Swedish users to key in their extended characters.
- fED can now be registered with Joerg Spilker in Germany. This is for the
convenience of our European pals. Read the registration form for more
details.
